Looking to own an Evo

I currently own a 2008 FG2 civic si, I'm interested in buying either an Evo or an STI, I still haven't decided, I have about a budget of 25k tops and I'd be using it as a daily driver, I originally wanted an evo IX but I've been shifting towards an evo X because I heard they handle better and are much nicer inside, any suggestions or advice are welcome.

hey guy ill give you some input lol. i was in the same boat. traded an 06' civic si for my evo ix se. i was torn between looking for an evo or sti hopefully my opinion might help ya with a decision. for the longest time i wasnt really an evo fan, i would of chosen an sti over an evo any day. i was actually ready and set to purchase an 08 sti tst drove the thing and it was great, but before i went to finalize all my paperwork i went to look at a few evos. i test drove an evo ix one time and i was absolutely amazed. it changed my mind about the sti's completely. ever since i havent really been an sti fan lol.

soo my advice to you would be to test drive a few sti's the older ones and the newer ones and same as the evos test drive some older ones and some newer ones. i ave drivin alll of them lol and im not really a fan of the evo x. they just feel slower and heavy compared to my ix i was reallly dissapointed when i drove the x model. they say they handle better but its almost not noticible unless your on atrack and the differences are very small.

as a dd either of them are a good choice. all gt about 20-25 mpg depended on how you drive them. from a maintenance standpoint all about similar except the evos are an inline engine and subies are boxers.

as a performance standpoint its evo viii/ix all the way. my stock evo ix with a test pipe first time ever down a track ran consistant 13.2 quarters at 102mph. the sti's have trouble getting into the 100mph range and hang around the 14 second time.

all cars are very very similar but the small differences are huge. i kno all these cars like the back of my hand if yo would like to kno specific differences that may change ur mind about any of them ask and ill let ya kno haha hope some of that helps your thinking haha

Yeah i had gone to check out an evo viii and there were a few things wrong with it like huge leak in the sunroof big wheel dent and random **** like that then I asked the guy if I could take it for a test drive and he's like I'd rather drive it myself, so I was fine with it but we get in and he wouldn't take it past 3k rpms so it sketched me out pretty bad and turned me off from evos but idk lately I've been looking into them a lot, oh and I autocross my Si and plan on auto crossing the evo/sti

Are you looking at new sti's or older models? The newer ones seem to be having trouble with reliability issues after mid-high level tuning. Just a thought.

Check out YouTube as well. There are some good videos. The one by Everyday Driver helped push me over the edge for the X. I believe the X is also the first in the US with all the traction controls such as Yaw, but somebody will correct me if I'm wrong. Top Gear also had a video X vs the Sti.

Here is the link for the review by Everyday Driver

And the one from Top Gear

I'd pick the STi, but I'm a huge fan of the Evo IX over the X though.

Dang threads like these are common haha and it's always someone deciding between an evo or sti. I own a evo 9 and I love everything about it, but If I had a chance to choose between a 9 and X i'd get a X. I've compared the two cars.. My brother has a X and it sits in the garage next to mine and i've driven it and it's just more comfy and smoother (more roomy, grown up feel to it) Btw he's modded the s**t out of it. The IX is lighter and has a more raw drive. That's just how I feel about it tho.

Whether its an sti or an evo I'm going for 2006+ and lately I've been leaning towards the evo x as I prefer a bit of a smoother ride with still good performance.

I have heard about quite a few issues with the STi, I would go to their forum as well as just doing some research. The Evo seems to be a much more reliable vehicle after reading quite a bit on both, cause I was in the same boat as you. Now all I have to do is get the money together, but I decided on the Evo as my choice due to them having a nicer ride, nicer interior, I think they look better, they seem to be more mod friendly, and seem to be more reliable.

In the end its your choice though.

I went from an 07 civic si with full bolt-ons and hondata reflash to an 06 wrx to an 03 evo. The Evo is the best car out of the bunch. It will make as much power as your imagination will allow and you can safely take your kids to school on a snowy day.

I put a $500.00 deposit on a 2011 STi sedan, came home and trolled this forum for a week as well watched tons of videos on YouTube. A week and a half later....I got my deposit back from Subie and bought a 2010 Evo X instead.

Well I'm pretty much convinced on the evo now it's a matter of deciding on an 06 or an 08 and then finding one, I'd prefer GG but most people seem to hang on to those in my area
