Personally, I wait to get into boost until the oil temp is up to spec. FWIW, the temp gauge in the cluster shows the water temp. It takes anywhere from 5-15 minutes for the oil to come up, relative to the water temp, depending.

On start up wait a few mins. then drive real easy out the sub. till I hit the main road. Go through the gears staying below 3,000 till normal operating temps. Then have fun!

I wait until the temp gauge has one notch on it and then I start driving.

Also noticed that my MR tends to want to stick to first gear as long as possible in the morning (probably to warm up the transmission)

I warm it up for 1 minute or 2. Drive like a granny until it reaches full operating temp. I noticed if you don't warm it up and leave right away, shifting feels hard and notchy.

when starting up and idling, how long does it take for you to reach 1 bar on the temp gauge?

If you want to speed up the process do this... at 5:45am start the car, then keep revving the engine for 3 minutes, then drive off. lol

This is what I do in the morning. I let the car idle for 30 seconds to 1 minute, then I do a slow crawl out of the neighborhood. I slowly drive in 1st gear at 2k rpm or 2.5k rpm. Sometimes I shift to 2nd gear.

Once I'm on the road, I granny shift until the water temp gets warmed up. Then I drive normal. I never WOT any gears unless I've been on the road for 15 minutes or longer.

I give it 30 or so seconds to let the oil circulate a bit then crawl until water temp is at it's normal peak every time. I'd do this for any car I intend to take care of, not so much for my mirage. I hate that thing.
