Was not impressed with the Stock Evo X

Hey guys well i havent found any evo 8 or evo 9 that i like, so i've decided to look in the route of a new evo x. When i test drove it though i was really not impressed at all coming from a stock evo 9, which pulled much much harder stock for stock. Does anyone know if they are in limp mode till they hit a certain number of miles or is that just how the evo x's are stock? I've had two completely stock evo 9's before and they pull way harder in the higher rpms when compared to the evo x! I'll prob still buy and evo x just cuz i wanna try something different but im pretty disappointed in the stock power when its supposed to have 5 more hp!!!

Keep in mind it is a heavier car, maybe its the added weight you're feeling? I wouldn't say the X is sluggish by any means, but your car is lighter and IS faster in a straight line than a stock X.

And I would advise against doing pulls on a low km engine.

I thought mine pulled pretty hard when I test drove it. But maybe it's just not being use to it. I am kind of use to it now so doesn't seem as powerful but a few mods should get the feeling back.

If you are used to the pull and torque of the car in your sig a full bolt on heads cam z06 the evo feels like a moped. My dad has a bone stock A6 LS3 Grand Sport and when I drive it I can't believe how hard it pulls compared to my car, but when we take it to the track his car only pulls a couple tenths quicker than mine.

It'd because you didn't turn off the ASC. It'll control your throttle limit and differentials to prevent loss of traction and control. If you turn it "OFF OFF" you'll notice you wont have the limiter when trying to pull. Good luck

Also considering the evo was stock there is a-lot of room for improvement. it's pretty common to get around 80+ extra hp to the wheels on full turbo back intake and tune

The new 2011-2012 Evo X's tend to dyne around 250-270whp. I wouldn't call them sluggish by any means, but they are certainly not considered "fast."

My Evo 9 does feel lighter more agile off boost compared to my Evo X. The Evo X is all about peak tq numbers rather then hard pulling at redline. My Evo X is a lot of fun to drive at low speeds due to peaky tq at low rpms.

There's really no pull on the stock tune past 4500 rpm. These things are running so rich from the factory I feel that flooding the motor becomes a thought sometimes. I'm suffering from a chronic case of stock tune. LOL

I've driven a bolt on evo with a dyno tune that its night and day difference.

The evo x's still do have a more "composed" power delivery than "raw" 8s and 9s from my experience. But maybe that's just my imagination.

The main differences between the 8/9 power and X power really show up towards stock block potentials and intake/exhaust valve flow characteristics.
+1 evo 8/9 for stronger stock internals(con rods)
+1 evo x for better stock valve flow

Once you tune it and add a few bolt on she wakes up but still feel heavier and more sluggish but suspension will fix that.

like most people are saying. basic bolt ons and a tune will make a big difference. it's been about 4 years since i felt the stock tune but i remember it being lack luster in areas of the power band.

i have basic bolt ons and am tuned for e85 and pump gas. i can't say i make less power than my friends with similar mods on their viii/ix. it weighs more but i also haven't had much trouble hanging with viii/ix's at the track either.....er well to a point where it's power and weight that is making me slower or faster, if you know what i mean.

Big thing to me(ive owened all 3 evos stock and modded) is that the evo X is so much nicer in the interior and keeps noise out more, the car feels slower jsut because it sounds slower.
