Carbon Fiber wrap

Looking for some advice, opinions on (pros/cons) of carbon fiber wrap.

I like the look of the cabon fiber hood, but i hear soo many complications with them fitting wear ect.. due to extreme weather conditions we have (I drive my EVO year round and do not have a garage)

Is the wrap a good alternative?

Please dont just tell me that its stupid or crazy.. but maybe why so

thanks Taylor

Only buy real things. You'll never have to make excuses.

It will be sad when someone say. "Wow, your hood looks so cool. Is that Carbon Fiber!?" And you'll have to answer, presuming you are honest. "No, I'm sorry, I only bought the vinyl look of CF because I wasn't sure a real CF hood wood fit correctly but still wanted the look"

They'll say, "oh"

You'll say, "It's not bad at all, and I'd like to take you inside and introduce you to my girlfriend. I thought a real woman might be too difficult so decided a cardboard cut out of Julia Roberts would be, essentially, the same thing, she's really nice"

They'll say, "oh"

Sounds ricey to me.

Stock hoods seem very light to me. My humble opinion is to put the money towards something that will actually improve the car.

Fair enough; I'll tell you why wrapping parts in CF-colored/patterned vinyl is stupid. Carbon fiber is used for its weight saving properties. It's very expensive, it's not terribly easy to work with, but its low weight and high strength make for a viable expenditure when chasing every last fraction of a second. Wrapping parts in CF-like vinyl does two thing: It adds weight to what's supposed to be an opposite measure, and it affords a look that mimics a high-performance application when the exact opposite (again) is taking place. Lose-lose. It's rice to the n'th degree. Total poseur territory. HTH

Or, you could stop by our detailing board and learn how to effectively maintain your paint.

I presumed he didn't take kindly to my remark in regard to a cardboard cut out girlfriend being the equivalent of wrapping your car in vinyl to make it look like it is made of something else...

I wanted a white Evo in 11 and since there were so many rumours on Mitsubishi ending the gas powered Evo, I had to settle for grey. Vinyl was always an option but every shop I've been to has advised me not to due to the extreme weather conditions and there is absolutely no protection against street debris. Instead I 3M'd the entire car with a light tint. It has a dull finish so it gives the grey a matte look. I'm happy with this decision as it gives my car a different look plus offers the protection against rock chips.

Oh no! Now I find myself guilty of the same stereotypical BS for which I regularly complain. And while I suspect the cardboard reference applies as readily to an image of, say, a dreamy Pierce Brosnan, I stand corrected and ask forgiveness.
