Carbon Fibre Parts

Hi,

I have a question for those who has experience with carbon fibre parts such as hood, trunk, and doors perhaps..

How much weight different between carbon fibre hood, trunk & original aluminum hood and trunk of the evo x? As we all know the x is heavy, will these carbon fibre part helps in reducing weight of the car?

If I were to replace the doors with carbon fibre doors, will that help a lot on reducing weight?

thanks

replacing aluminum with carbon-over-fiberglass molds only adds to your car's weight. the doors and trunk aren't aluminum though if i recall, so replacing those might save you a few pounds, but don't replace the hood or fenders. if you must replace those said aluminum parts, always get the vacuum mold carbon (referred to as "dry" but it's actually an inaccurate term...i digress), not the thick resin-laid stuff.

If you are trying to lose weight don't even bother with most Carbon Fiber items. Look into taking out the stuff you don't need rather then replacing items with something that might look a little better.

not exactly...the molds that are lighter than aluminum are hard to come by and has to be manufactured properly, otherwise it won't be rigid enough for collisions. i can say with relative certainty that only jdm carbon hoods (i.e. varis) meets that requirement.

truth. don't bother replacing the aluminum stuff would be my recommendation as well. they're pretty light weight as is.

The Seibon CF fenders are about the same weight as the stock fenders. Lose weight out of the front of the car, don't worry about the rear.

Careful with a CF hood if you track the car. Some clubs/ groups don't like them, especially if you are competing. They don't bend in an accident, they break into pieces and don't save any weight anyway.

Common myth in the world today. Auto makers have done a good job of making fairly lightweight vehicles. If you are looking to lose weight, try taking our your spare tire out if you don't really need it. There are a few items in the front which use a lot of weight that can be upgraded to lose weight. Also, your rim/tire set-up might play a role too. Look into getting some lightweight rims.

there's some truth in it, but again, you have to understand as well, that there are two types of carbon fiber car parts, usually never mentioned because...well, they gotta make money. the ones that give you serious weight loss also donkey punches your wallet like it's begging for abuse. the rest that are readily available on the market is just the usual heavy junk that does no justice in terms of weight loss. it's true that, despite what is said, it is still lighter than some oem parts - some cars use very heavy parts for the sake of safety. in the evo, however, that sort of effort is mostly wasted.
