Evo X clutch question

Hey guys I'm in the market of buying a 2008 gsr from a dealership. It has 41k miles the clutch seems to be in good shape no slip but it releases at the very top. Is that normal for a stock clutch? The pedal is not very stiff so I'm assuming it is stock. I'm also kinda scared to buy the car due to hearing how bad the cmc is has anyone found a good replacment cmc that's been proven on a street clutch?

happens.

If it has 41k miles on it, it's probably an aftermarket clutch. If it picks up really high, then it's probably a ClutchMasters clutch-which is an outstanding clutch :thumb up:

I've had two Evo X's, and never had a problem with the CMC. I put an Exedy clutch in my first one (stock clutch goes at 25k usually) and it sucked to drive.

As for the CMC "problem", I've had two X's, and have 3 other friend with X's and none of us have had a failure.

You'll find that AMS makes a lot of reinforcement and upgrade parts (great company btw) for common stuff. Their CMC reinforcement kit is only $50 if you're really worried about it, then get it.

the clutch shouldnt be out by 25k. on my last evo x with full bolt ons and tune, i was at 30k and still going strong. the engagement point on these cars are generally high and some remove the clutch restrictor pill from the slave master to lower it and make it more consistant. but being on my second x, it all just comes down to simply getting used to it.

The clutch longevity depends on your driving style. I've gotten 35k out of my stock clutch and is just now starting to slightly slip because I'm recently modded and tuned. If it wasn't for the extra power I'm confident I could've gotten many many more miles out of it but I don't launch or track the car just some spirited driving here and there.

The clutch might have 10's of thousands of miles left on it, or it might be a day from starting to slip. Don't run out and replace it, but also be ready if you do have to replace it.

I'm just trying to get myself prepared for when I have to replace it. It seems like there is no proven cmc yet. I doubt this clutch is after market it don't feel tough to push in

hey buddy,

i have the act-me1-hdss with streetlight fly + magnus cmc kit.
holds great power, drives like stock, and feels just slightly more pressure than stock.
best of all, the clutch can be adjusted far better than the ams kit to suit your needs.

The best I can explain it is you know the nice feeling of the stock clutch rolling out of the dealership? Crisp and firm? Feels like that daily now. I remember 5k miles in my GSR my stock clutch started to feel lighter and lighter overtime. None of that now. Be sure to pickup an SS braided clutch line. It really helps with pedal feel and hose expansion as well. I wouldn't trade it for the world now. I drive it daily sitting in Jersey (entering NYC) traffic bumper to bumper and its the same feeling whether cold as hell, nice and warm like today, or riding the clutch because I have to in traffic and avoiding the morning races to work. I should be around 365/365 in power atm.

I just hit 39k miles on my stock clutch.

Mine doesn't slip at all, although mine does engage quite high.. but I think it has always done this. Either way, I think my clutch has tons of life left. I think the 41k one is fine.

I just did an Exedy stage 1in my 08 at 60k to replace the stock clutch. 200miles later the cmc went out. Had the $50 AMS kit on it. The kit will not keep it from breaking it just holds it from blowing out. I bought the CMC kit from AMS no complaints and I murder my car when I drive it.

I have 58k miles on my stock clutch. Still in good condition.. I am replacing the CMC with a evo 9 one in next few weeks as a precaution for when I do replace the clutch. I will be going with competition clutch stage 2. basic bolt on mods.

Just passed 86K on my '08 GSR. No signs of slippage yet, 1/2 highway, 1/2 city miles.

So many clutch threads lately...OP, check the Evo X Drivetrain section, I've already responded in two today. If there's nothing wrong the clutch then don't worry about it.
