Can the EVO MR be luxurious?
Luxory is overrated... After my Evo IX I had an Audi A4. Yeah... the little creature comforts and other nice things were good, but it usually means a sacrifice in other areas.
You generally don't buy a luxory car to go fast, unless it's the Audi A8 W12 or something like that.
If you want to make the MR more classy, that's a possibilty. It will just take a lot of patience.

The Evo X is more comfortable and better DD than an Evo IX, but it's still way way way leaning to the race car side of the spectrum versus standard car, and purely in my opinion, but nowhere near luxury. It's not tuned to feel like a luxury ride, and it's not designed or equipped to either, even in the MR Touring trim. You'd have to make the steering heavier, slower, add a completely different and softer suspension, and slap even more dynamat under it before it would start to sound and feel like a luxury car, and then you can go to work replacing or wrapping bits of the interior with more leather or aluminum/wood etc.
In any event, it's a long way from luxury in my opinion. I'd take it over any BMW any day of the week, but I wouldn't confuse it as a competing with the BMW in the luxury class.
I have a MR Touring and eventhough it is nice inside leather and what not it never feels like a luxury car it is what it is. A better somewhat softer version of a rally car, it rattles and the ride is nowhere luxurious so just like most the people here get something else there are far better choices if you want a luxury car. The EVO is a cult car only people who know what they are sacrificing for performance are willing to live with them.
335x is a joke.
If you want a luxury car get an s4
Or
The new VW golf R is nice. I had a 2 door white reserved but canceled it due to an unstoppable stability control.
With an exhaust and tune you can make 260awhp 280 awtq pretty easily

That said it's all subjective. I agree with the suggestion that the Evo (even MR) is not a "generalist" car. You have to specifically want it for what it is and love it. If you don't, then pick a side, Audi or bmw, Lexus or Infiniti, and join one of the other "sporty semi luxury awd compact sedan" holy wars
I recently traded the MR on a GTR, but absolutely loved it for what it was. That said, it isn't for everyone and probably isn't for the OP
The new R is supposed to be much nicer on the inside, more luxurious. Slower than an Evo, but that's what mods are for.
I've owned 4 Audi's then bought an Evo VIII GSR (about the most non luxury car you can buy) I loved it! Then I crashed it and bought a 2011 A4 Premium Plus. Really nice car. Absolutely no fun to drive. It has decent power and great handling but not really fun to drive, you could fall asleep driving it. Needless to say the wife now drives the A4 and I picked up a Evo X. The Evo is a blast to drive but really far from luxury. I have alot of friends whom drive Merc's and BMW's and thought I was crazy for down grading to a rattle box Mitsubishi. After I crashed it and bought the A4 a couple of them were like "I'm glad to see you back in a real car" or an "adults car". I'm 33. Then I went back and bought the X and they think I'm crazy again. The Evo will NEVER be a luxury car unless you compare it to a Geo metro. If you want to impress people buy an Audi (for me there is no other luxury car). If you want fun to drive but your friends and co-workers to think your crazy buy the Evo. I get what I like, you only get one life who cares what other people think. What is going to make you smile when you get in and look back over your shoulder when you get out.
If you want to feel luxury in an evo X... All you need to do is drive an evo VIII for a few weeks then buy the X and it will feel luxurious. The Evo looks bad *** and that's all the luxury you need.
I don't care about fake wood interior that's called luxury. Also, a BMW is a very nice car, but they are all over the place. When I lived in CA, every stop light had at least 3 BMW sitting there.
The luxury of the evo is different than other cars. When people take their first ride in my car, the first things most people say is, "I love these seats, this car sounds good, how much power does it have, what do those gauges do, etc..."
When you drive an Evo, it's a rare car no matter where you live. You don't see very many of them on the road.

MR-T is luxurious enough for me, but it is definitely not a luxury vehicle. It's always a sports vehicle first and you feel that every time you get behind the wheel (and that's a good thing).
The luxury of Evo is not on the interior.... period.
MR-T has leather and all, but you will never feel luxurious enough like lexus, bmw or audi (I have one). Get Audi or M3 like the other guy said. Or you can go all custom crazy with the interior. I'm sure there's one shop that can luxurize your Evo.
