AC blower stopped working

The blower stopped working this morning. Even when the blower is at the highest speed there is no air moving into the car. When the AC indicator is on I can hear the AC working and the fans under the hood also go on, I can feel the cold air on the vent. I checked the fuse and it seems fine. Should I go to the dealership or are there other solutions?

my guess is corrosion on the motor shaft, happened to my lancer last year. Real simple to fix, took me around 20 min.

Take out the motor from the passenger foot well, there are two pop clips for the black panel and three screws for the motor mount assembly. Once off, take the screw holding the white plastic fan on and push off the motor. I had to use a hammer and two people to get it off because of the corrosion. Once off, apply wd-40 on the shaft and spin by hand. replace everything and you should be good to go.

If this does not work, than the ~$40 transistor that turns on the motor is shot.

I had a similar situation. mine turned out to be the fuse. the connection between the blower fuse and the fuse box was corroded/melted. the fuses used in these cars are of VERY poor quality. the fuse would test good, but it wansnt till I yanked it out, cleaned the fuse box terminals and replaced the fuse that it stated working again. still acts up once in a while.

It's most likely the resistor pack for the fan. Had the same thing happen to me. Took it to the dealer and it was fixed in less than 30 minutes under warranty.

Mind telling me the location for the particular fuse you fixed?I checked #28 30A fusible link(AC condenser fan motor) under the hood.My blower fan in the gb isnt working when hooked up,I can get it to spin when directly connected to car battery.Thx man

Update: I checked everything again and found no leak, but I noticed when I turn the AC on it sort of makes a "clicking" noise, but nothing happens. The radiator and everything else works fine. Any tips on how I can check if the blower motor?

Remove your glove box, then remove your cabin air filter and see how the blower spin. If its hard to turn over and not smooth you have a bad blower motor, so i would replace both motor and resistor if you have a bad motor, but if the motor is fine replace the resistor.

I know what it is!!! i had the same thing....
HVAC Blower Motor Resistor Part # : 7802A006

http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/200..._resistor.html

If your car still under warranty the dealer can change it , i think they had a service letter for this. This part sits right behind the blower motor and controls the speed of the motor.

When i got mine replaced i took mine out and changed the thermal paste on the heatsink that came from factory with artic silver 5 .

Good Luck!

Thanks a lot! I'll look into it asap tomorrow. I'm out of warranty and really don't want to deal with the dealership!

Where is the transistor located?i know the resistor(not transistor) that looks like its got a square heatsink is located near the blower motor, but I heard the transistor is located upwards closer to the cabin filter area.does anyone have a diagram to pinpoint this.Thx in advance.

9 out of 10 is the resistor....

it is what everyone else is calling a resistor with the big heatsink on it. The part is a power transistor, that is why it has three wires connected to it. Power, Ground and Gate. The way it works is when you provide 12 volts to the gate, it closes the junction between power and ground which is high current compared to the ecu low current output.

Thx man,I guess I'll take a shot at replacing the transistor.I heard that most 'bad' transistors would be corroded or have bad connectors that need to be soldered or cleaned out but honestly this one looks brand new.Since what initially happened was a seized shaft on the blower motor itself,I'm hoping that it blew out the transistor, but I don't see anything visually wrong with it,any suggestions?
