yet another evo X erratic idle

This issue almost deserves its own forum.

08 Evo X.. bone stock 40,000 miles. erratic idle at random warm start/cold start. Occasional erratic idle followed stall, usually warm start.

k.. I've read through all the posts and the issue is that all other posts the vehicles have mods done to them and for the ones with no mods the issue ends up being that POS fpr hose. I've done the fpr hose, cleaned the throttle body, check the plugs and checked for vacuum leaks.

Any thoughts on how to t/s without shotgunning parts?

I have a 2012 bone stock GSR (now wth 2000 miles) and have had erratic idle from time to time. Doesnt seem to matter if it is cold or warm. It hasnt stalled out on me though. But it has felt like it has came close to stalling on a few occasions.

Mine turned out to be my intake pipe not properly connected from factory. You can also check to make sure everything is connected properly. It's not the first time a car manufacturer has done that in my personal experience. (The airbag sensor on my 2010 Audi.)

are you talking about the IC piping or the pipe at the TB?

No. The actual intake with the airbox.

My intake was not properly connected on either end which caused the intake to shift around from the engine movement and suck in more air around the leaks and then suddenly seal when shifted again. It caused the idle to be very erratic and the car to drive almost like it had a boost leak. I couldn't figure it out for the longest time until I installed a K&N filter and the intake popped off when I was moving the front portion of the intake box into position to clip it. The front portion of the box wasn't properly installed, either. I noticed that before I started the install of the filter. The whole box basically just popped open once I took out the support bolt. I hadn't even had a chance to undo the metal clips that squeeze the 2 ends together.

Also, I would check your mass air sensor to make sure it's not dirty.

I also have a 2012 GSR with erratic idle , when it happens you will see RPM RPM 1500 down to 600 going Up and Down Up and down cycles but it never stalls.
I usually just give it light throttle Tap and it instantly stops, this has happened to me since day 1 i purchased the car.
It looks like some kind of ECU programming error nothing mechanical related,
very hard to duplicate problem it only happens maybe twice a week,

Pretty much the same with me.

My 2010 Evo does the same thing!! Sometimes I'll start it and the RPMs don't shoot up to to normal idle RPMs. It'll sputter at super low RPms until I give it some gas. All I have for mods on the engine is an injen intake system with upper intercooler pipe and a greddy exhaust. :/ ima take it to the dealership but since it happens soo randomly I doubt they'd be able to find the cause.

Here is the order that I would check things... I'm no expert, though. So take this all as just things that I've done in the past with my DSM's and my Evo IX and X.

Boost leak check - You've already done this

Soapy water test on all IC piping - If you see bubbles, there is a leak.

Check all vacuum lines

Check MAS sensor

Check PCV - It's a 2008, so it shouldn't be bad. It's just a good idea to check it.

Check BOV for broken diaphragm/leaks

Check throttle body/clean throttle body - You've already done this.

Check Cat

If all else fails:

Check air filter and replace if needed

Install boost gauge and watch the readings

Check clutch master/slave cylinder and ensure the clutch is properly engaging.

Check your fuses. Had this issue also and it turned out to be a fuse. Can't remember which but its one one that's some what known for popping for little or noreason and causing the idle issue.

I would check all the listed above:

Boost leaks
Intake Shield
Popped off Vac lines

However if all persists after might want to consider pulling your fuel injectors and checking to make sure the nozzles look clean and not full of gunk. ..Check your plugs too. Not like people haven't lost their engine from the plugs cracking from a little detonation

What do you mean "I've done the FPR hose" what did you do?

Put a zip tie on the FPR hose that has literally nothing holding it on.
