Is it worth paying more for the AMS DP when it's been proven the gains are so minimal if not non-existant? I'd just opt for the full Cobb TBE.

Can I still run all the other products I mentioned like the AMS pipes and fit them to the Cobb TBE and get the same gains?

Thanks

The AMS pieces use the stock 2 bolt flanges. I haven't looked at the Cobb exhaust, but if it's a 2 bolt flange and not a slip on then it will fit. If it's a slip on you will need to hack off the flange on the AMS pieces.

The bell mouth portion of the AMS DP that replaces the o2 housing creates the largest gain. Just a downpipe alone would not increase HP much, because the o2 housing section is the restrictive part.

Cobb, both for aesthetics and sound...and because I have one on my X.

Tomei sounds better in my opinion, but I like the stock appearance of the Cobb. The Tomei has more benefits in my opinion. It has a more race sound to it, it's around 9 lbs as someone stated earlier (and that I read on the website), and less piping. The benefits of the Cobb system are that it has a stock appearance and would attract less attention from people/cops.

I agree. The cost caused me to look for something else too. But for some people, it's worth it.

I think the Cobb exhaust is relatively similar in price.

I think the tomei exhaust would be a cop magnet here in Mass. If people actually knew about cars and understood the performance then I would probably go with it, but I think I (my car) would just get harassed.

I found it for a decent price from one of the vendors here. But I got to thinking... Tomei from them is $950ish with free shipping. That's about the price of the ETS V2, just in case anyone was wondering. They also sell titanium tubes, flanges, rear canister, and hangers to make our own. I figure... it would cost roughly the same price, but you could customize it a little more.

If you are super concerned about prices, or came from the DSM world or Honda scene and don't believe in spending some cash on a nice exhaust, just keep browsing the forums until you find a nice used quality exhaust for a good price.
yeah, that was my point. They all make the same power, so if he's looking for performance to price ratio, well then he just needs to take his car to a muffler shop.

Am i missing something or did cobb start making the dual exit catbacks again? Last time i checked a couple months ago, they had stopped production and replaced it with the quad tip.

And don't you see the discounts after the prices listed? I think they have the parts listed at retail, and then have a discounted sum. But 5 hours is not bad at all. How long does it take to install the downpipe? Like 4 by itself? Plus the catback and testpipe, which really dont take that long.. but then you have the boost controller, in intake..
Other way around, the LICP requires the AMS Intake (although i've heard people using the LICP and buying a different hose for the bov recirc and using a ETS intake. Fitment is still abit off even with both parts being AMS

I think they hours quoted were wrong. It takes about 4-5 hours to do the dp install. That stock 02 housing is a ****. Probably 1-2 hours for the rest of the exhaust. Intake and UICP takes 45mins. 3port takes 30mins. So thats about 8-9 hours for everything.

The price isnt just for the performance. Its for the quality and the weight. I was over seas when my buddy dropped off the tomei exhaust i bought from him. My girlfriend picked it up and said "holy **** this is light" Stock exhaust is ~36lbs...the tomei is 9.6lbs. When i changed everything around. The whole tomei exhaust was ligher then the stock mid section of the catback. Obviously you arent going to notice a difference on the streets with the weight savings. But with other mods and when adding everything up and racing at the drag strip or road course...it adds up and it helps. With my AMS Widemouth, T1R Resinated TP and Tomei Expreme, i cut off 46lbs from the turbo back.

Tomei is well worth it. And it's cheap compared to ARC or amuse titanium exhausts which cost 3x plus you'll gain more power with straighter piping.

If you need a quote, let me know!

Pretty sure on just the top part of the list i can save you at least $300.00 with just quoting parts off the top of my head.
