I'm buying a used 2010 cluster that has 15K on it, and I'd like to update it to match the 35K of my actual car. I know I can also just put a sticker in my door jamb, but this seems more likely to affect resale value. I found someone who will do it for $200, but that seems high. Any other options?

Wouldnt someone knowing you don't have the right odometer in your car raise questions anyway? I know it's your money, but it kinda seems like a waste to change it or are there benefits to having the color unit that I am not aware of. I say since you already spent the money on something like a new odometer what $200 more?
$200 sounds like a good deal to me actually. If they can actually do it it would be worth it.

The main benefit is having coolant temp on at all times. If the mileage is accurate, I don't think most people would object to the upgrade at all. Originally Posted by mnauelg1702

I wouldn't pay the guy $200 because he lied to me and told me that if I didn't update the odometer, it would stop working after 200 miles. I don't do business with people who lie to get it.

As someone who is a potential buyer here...i would be turned off by a different odometer....just my opinion and not saying anything about your integrity, but when complete strangers are looking at your car, its hard to bridge that trust factor sometime...especially if you were to have the car for a lot longer...but otherwise i agree, the 2010+ dash/console is much better!
I found a local shop, Palo Alto Speedometer, who is legit and can do the service. It'd be pretty easy for me to prove mileage, I have full service records from the dealership showing a progression of service stops, and I'll post pictures of both old and new odometers showing the same mileage. I'm not looking to defraud anyone and what I'm doing isn't different than a dealer performing a warranty replacement of an odometer.

i hear ya, just saying if ever in the future you want to sell it there will be people who will be really skeptical/suspicious or who try and get you to take a lot off the price for it. good luck and post up so we can see how nice it blends in after surgery!Originally Posted by nsnguyen

Meh, why waste time and money pulling apart the car? For what if your worried about the coolant put it on the coolant setting all the time. Colored lights? Who cares!
The only colored lights you should be concerned about are the red and blue ones flashing behind you...

So much win in this thread. Anyways I'm interested in seeing how this goes as I was under the assumption that the mileage was not stored in the display itself.

Definitely in the cluster, on an EEPROM I believe.Originally Posted by AWDTerror

Interesting note, all lancer clusters are swappable, they just read the vehicle features from the CANbus and display the relevant screens.

Heh. It's not really logical, but it's a free country and I can waste my money on whatever I want.Originally Posted by thegoodservant

Done!
I received the cluster last week and when I installed it to test, it had only 3616 miles:

When I removed the old cluster, it had 36064 miles on it:

I took the speedo to a local shop, Palo Alto Speedometer, a reputable place who does work for dealers, and had them reset it for $175.

As you can see, I drove it a few miles to ensure that everything worked before taking a picture. It looks great and I'm happy that I have a full time temp gauge. Also, the 2010 clusters have a heavy tint on the lens, so the gauges look different as well.
So, anyway, everything works perfectly and the cluster picked up my vehicle features without a problem. Anyone want a gently used 2008 cluster?

Congrats. The color display is much better then the red IMO. $175 to get it installed and reset? How much did you pick the item up for?
