Interesting MPG after hardpipe install

So I recently threw on my ETS uicp the other day and on my trip to work last night I just happened to look at my avg mpg and what did I see your wondering?.......28.5 avg mpg!

Yes I was blown away and scared ****less. I was like surely my car wasn't leand out that damn much? I was worried it done leaned out and about to kill my motor. So got back in the car that evening and punched it watching the AFR on my wideband and everythings working perfect. under load im dropping down to ~11 with a WOT in 3rd of 12.5. While im cruising have a flex from 13.6-15.2 AFR so the numbers are great. this morning coming to work had like 26-27 avg. MPG (Keep in mind ~30 miles of my 42 mile trip is highway)

Just thought I would share this with everyone.

-stick a pair of rolled up socks in your mouth and jog a mile.
-remove socks from mouth and jog a mile.

Which one used less energy and/or was more efficient?

Haha Funny guy, but honestly I doubt your MPG went up that significantly. the stock UCIP is not that bad.. sure it expands under boost but not bad at all.

Funny but not a really good analogy since some people run and breath through the nose and not the mouth. A better one would be wearing a mask and without. Just saying.

This!

Also, the only thing the hard pipe does is prevent flexing which can make ur boost go crazy.

Check ur fuel pump relay, it might be going bad. But I seriously don't know why ur mpg is that high, the highest mpg that I've ever done is 25mpg and that's babying the throttle. I'm averaging 18 when I'm just cruising and 13 when spirited....then again, I have most of the bolt one and flashed by access port so my afr is a little rich. Only other reason that ur mpg is that high is lean conditions but u said ur afr looks good on wot.

So I stand corrected on the afr. Just didn't a run wot 2nd and 3rd and afr was 10's. The 12.5 comes in if I remember when 4th hits the 5k mark. So sorry for the incorrect info at the top.

I don't know if I am reading right but with those AFs at WOT you are gonna melt some pistons. You should be between 10.5-11.5 at wot the entire pull in all gears

Excellent if you are now averaging near 28mpg! Perhapse check this daily and get a monthly average mpg? If Mitsu claims 17/21(22), and a 28 average can be achieved with a hardpipe (upper) we need to contact their R&D dept. so they can cut you a check since their car now towers over class competition MPG. jk, but if you can manage 28 thats excellent. My hud peaked once at 27.1 with lots of coasting to lights and mostly slow speed highway driving. but generally I can average 22-24 by driving very very easy, no boost, no antics.

IC pipes alone will not have a noticeable effect on fuel mileage one way or the other.

I have always wondered how accurate the gauge is in the Evo X. While cruising, my son in his 2011 GSR has hit 27 mpg and my own 2011 GSR hits 25 mpg while cruising. When we go to fill up, it is more like 20 mpg. Does the gauge show fuel economy for that particular moment or does it show overall fuel economy for that particular tank of gas?
