Car Keys stolen...

Some ******** at the hospital stole my scrubs and car keys from the mens locker room.

Anyone have experience in replacing these keys? What is the cost a new one and has anyone had the locks changed before?

Just trying get a ballpark estimate

If he stole your keys I would try to find a way to change the code so he can't use your old key anymore. I think it's something like 1 hour of labor.

I think they can still manually open the car door right?

Unfortuantely my spare key is in Florida and my dad is overnighting it but it won't get here (CT ) until friday afternoon. I won't have the opportunity to get to the dealership until monday.

I guess I'll ask them to change the codes, hopefully it won't cost an arm and a leg

You might want to contact your insurance as well. I would let them know what happened at the least. It's not going to be cheap to get anything changed lockwise on the car. Being a locksmith, I know anytime you go changing things in a vehicle it gets expensive.

What would insurance do other than jack up the price

Insurance may call it a no fault claim... Maybe. They may cover something, for them it might be better to cover locks than to cover a stolen car.

I say park the car in a very busy part of the parking lot or wherever and try to catch the dirtbag. You could disconnect the battery or something to make a "get away/hijacking" a problem and see if he actually tries to come after it. Haha.

Just park it in view of a security guard or something like that. I would just having to switch the locks on a new car.

Man that sucks, hopefully it was maybe an honest mistake and they get returned. I agree with this, or undo the igniter for the ignition alot harder to spot that way rather if the person is smart enough to open the hood.

If you have full coverage, asked them to tow it to the dealer or somewhere they can fix it. I am sure it will cost something at the dealer but at least that way you don't get your car stolen.

I'm a surgical resident... time is more valuable than anything in my world lol.

Ended up making an appointment with mitsubishi on monday to get a new key and have the RF codes/key chips changed. Guy told me it about $200 said and done.

And I get my free oil change

I'm actually going for a jog this morning (day off) to work to pick up my car. My spare key arrived via Fedex last night .
