Red Day Time Light

Hey guys,

I see a couple of evo x's with red day time lights. Where could I go about getting those? Also do you think it is illegal to have those? I know you cant have red or blue lights but if I just drive around with my HID's on then it wouldnt be a problem for the most part I think. I just cant find red replacement bulbs any where....

Thanks,
Ryan

A red light on the front of the car? Not only illegal in most states, but also not very smart.

Iowa is totally right, having red light emitting to the front of your car is just asking for problems. If you want to change your DRL (which I wouldn't) maybe switch them to HIDs too?

Red and Blue lights are illegal in certain states. I know here in Wisconsin last I knew, the only colors you could have other than standard were orange in front and sides, and red in back

Yeah after checking with the police here in PA it is illegal, but they said as long as you were at a car show its not big deal. Am I right when I say when you turn on the HID's the day lights go off? because then it wouldn't be a problem at all. But if they are still no then I will have problems I just need to find red bulbs for it now if they do turn off.

I have no idea how your HIDs are wired, but you cannot have working red lights on the front of a car on the street, no matter what other lights are illuminated.

And of course it's fine at a car show. You can do anything you want when the car is not on the street; when sitting in a lot etc, your car isn't, legally, a car.

As always: I am not a lawyer, but I can read. It's Chapter 43 of the vehicle code in PA, where I used to live.

I guess I should get my book out and start reading :-) I still want to get a pair. Even if I have to change them out at the show. They are awesome looking.

I leave for work just before 5am and come over after 6pm, so I just leave my HIDs on all the time, and yeah the DRL are off when the HIDs are on.

IIRC the HIDs should last longer than the generic halogens the DRL use anyhow

Yeah thats what I figured, so why not put in lights that wont even show unless I want them too. I guess I am gonna try and get some red ones. Worst comes to worse I get pulled over and take them out, but shouldnt be a problem because I will have my HID's on all the time anyway.

I still wouldn't suggest red. Red is for brake lights. It's really inconsiderate to other drivers to **** with their heads like that while driving

DRL are fantastic for safety and are required by law in CA and required by law for motorcycles in the US.

They really do help people notice cars better, specially when someone is stupid enough to sit in your blindspot, the light often will catch your side rear-view and help you recognize when someones there.

seriously halogen bulbs are cheap, who cares if you replace them once ever 2-3 years. Being safe is never stupid.

It's like saying;

Riding a motorcycle with a helmet on is stupid.
Wearing a helmet while riding will cause the paint to fade quicker.
Riding with a helmet is stupid.
