If you go for the Sheriff's Department, you're going to be in the jails for a while, except if you go CDCR, you're already making up to $10,000 more annually than most other departments. While the Sheriff's Departments are only supposed to put you in the jails for a year or two, a lot of people who have done it more recently have ended up there for a longer period of time.

A friend of mine from high school who I ran into when applying for Ventura County Probation a few years back said that he was with the VCSD and had left since he had been at the jails for a lot longer than he had anticipated while having been expected to stay there even longer. He said he'd rather have just gone to CDCR and been making the extra dough for doing similar things (jails vs. prisons) during those three years.

Also, when I was doing the medical examinations for CDCR, I was talking to a guy who had been with the LASD for 20 years but was also applying, and he said that if he could do it all over again, he'd have chosen CDCR right away.

But personally, I was going for CHP the most.
I really don't want to be in the jails though, I hate corrections. I'm only taking the jail time so that I can get out to patrol.

...yes I said C.D.O. the way it should be!
Hahahaha I love it! Alphabetical order! Have you ever seen the Torque app?

Maybe focus more on the PDs then and just avoid it altogether.

I'm in the same boat as the OP. Recently something snapped in my head and now I'm crazy about the Evo X. So I'm planning on saving up for an Evo for the next year... or two. I'm pretty much a complete noob, but I've been reading the forums for a while now to get to know as much as I can about the car. Heck I'll probably know the whole car inside out when I get it lol.

So yeah SlateTheGreat, you're not alone hahaha.

I don't mind a year or two or three of the Jails but I wouldn't want my whole career there lol. I like the Sheriff department for how many different stations I can move to if there's conflict with a higher up at one

Did you ever consider CHP? You have that same flexibility of requesting to be moved to a different city. SF and LA have a high enough need for CHP officers to the point where you won't necessarily have to worry about being assigned to the middle of nowhere, if you don't want to be stuck there. Additionally, you'd be POST certified and can apply for whichever other agency (PD, SD, etc.).

My wife has a 2007 Focus. It's still fun to use. here's a link to download the AEM theme if you want:

http://thesource.homelinux.net:8080/aem_themeDir.zip

I'll have to look for the original one I made

It's all in how you drive. We also have a 12 Ralliart and that car gets average of 20-22 MPG, but I am a driver with a heavy foot. Maintenance on the car is def more expensive because it's recommended only synthetic fluids be put in the car. An average oil change is about $80 a pop at a dealership. Just keep in mind it's a turbo charged car and AWD. AWD will cause your tires to wear more quickly generally, which is why I negotiated fee replacement tires for the life of the vehicle when I purchased it new from the dealer. We both use the Evo X and Ralliart as DD. I drive about 50 miles per day and he takes his about 70-80 miles a day. We find we get about 220-260 miles per tank average. A tough competitor for us was the STi, but the Evo has all forged internals and will hold up longer. They also have bolt-ons that will add about 100 HP for about $1k whereas the STi does not come that cheap. If you are wanting a performance car, the Evo wins hands down. Keep an eye out though because word is they aren't making another Evo until 2014 where it will be remade as a turbo hybrid... Should be an interesting combo to say the least!
This isnt proof. That gauge isnt very accurate. I can reset that gauge costing downhill on the highway in neutral and have it read 70mpg+. The best way to calc mpg is to fill up the tank, reset the mileage, then at your next fill up divide the mileage by whatever number of gallons it took to fill back up

You would never make a 100hp from just mods and no tune first off...second, if u only spent 1k for full bolt ons u are def investing in some crappy quality parts. A tbe alone will run u on a high end 1400 and a low end of probably 900....and that's just the exhaust

Definitely going to miss how cheap modding the Focus is....
