adding intercooler?
i live in TX and its hot as hell down here. on any givin day its usually between 100 and 106. i can tell the effect it has on my car as i can feel a difference in pull each time i get on it. 1st and 2nd pull no problem but after that everythings so hot it just doesnt perform the way i know it can. i have 3 mods so far. injen intake + uicp, kw variant 3's and cobb access port running stage 1 map. ets v2, ets hfc and ams dp should be delivered at the end of this week. my question is, will getting an up-graded ic+licp make a difference in the climate im in? i plan on doing this up-grade + alot more at some point but was going to wait a while and just enjoy what ive done so far. any knowledge or experience would be greatly appreciated
When you say "inner cooler", do you really mean "intercooler"? Unfortunately, cars do no perform as well in the temps you mentioned. At some point, you will probably want to upgrade your intercooler. I just got an ETS 4" intercooler and the upper and lower piping. As for lowering the air charge using a bigger intercooler, I am not sure how much it will drop the temperature.
i too was looking at the 4" ets or the ams. i know the hot weather is going to decrease the performance no matter what but was wondering if it could atleast help to the point it would be benneficial to spend the money on it now or later in light of the big money ive recently spent on everything else over the past few months.
Spending more money that way will help but not as much as you want. There's other ways to cool down the fuel and air but it's expensive and cooling the air with a intercooler spray kit only lasts as long as you have the cooling spray...nothing you can do...run at night when it's cooler...

About the only thing to help mitigate the heat would be to run E85. The alcohol helps to cool down the charge coming into the cylinders. I really don't know how many degrees that would be, but it definitely helps make more power than 93 octane. Indycars have used methanol for years and it really helps both N/A and turbocharged engines run cooler. Sadly, it is a fact of life that when ambient temperatures are above 100 degrees F, cars run more poorly. Plus, you are probably using your air conditioning which only makes the problem worse. I would say to endure the heat, enjoy the air conditioning and wait until cooler temps prevail.
you don't "feel" the difference, you just think you do. And pipes won't increase cooling at all, might actually hurt the cooling since they are heat retaining metal instead of plastic. You could put a lower temp thermostat in and that will probably help.
In NM it doesn't get as hot as TX or AZ, but I still get 95+ degree days in the summer. When it's hot outside I drive easy and stay out of boots. When the temperature gets really hot outside, I drive my Toyota Tacoma and leave the evo at home.
Last year I drove from CA to NM in 100-115 degree heat the entire way in my Evo. The Evo performed incredibly well and never even came close to overheating. I drove really easy during that long drive and I was impressed how well it handled a 1200 miles with intense heat.
Since you live in TX, get a bigger intercooler. It will help, but nothing will help if you want to boost all over the place in the summer heat.
