Need a straight answer about bolt ons.

Alright what's up guys! This is my first post, just got an 08 gsr about 2 months ago & I LOVE IT. I Had a 2004 mustang gt before it so it's a whole different car for me. Anyways lol, my question is I heard 08's have a richer tune than the '11 & '12's, I bought a tp, dp, CIA, &all ic pipping. So my question is would I be able to run with these parts without a tune till I get it tuned?. (waiting on my bro to get his rsx turbo manifold built so we could both go at the same time). I have all the parts at home & I'm so anxious to install everything! Thanks for any input guys.!

Adding just mods adds very little power. A good tune is your first best MOD.

I did what you did. Unless you tune yourself, save the money and get tuned professionally once you have all your bolt-ons done. No point in getting a tune before you add bolt ons,.

get yourself a Cobb Access Port (or some sort of engine management system) so you could at least run on a base OTS (Off The Shelf) map, untill you get tuned. even on the base map, i would baby the car till you get pro tuned

So even just casual driving would be too lean with these mods? I just can't wait to get it tuned. Still undecided where to but hopefully soon.

buy a Cobb AP first, then you have a tune that will work, and you get a copy of the software and make adjustments yourself. It's an excellent system. Down the road you can get a pro tune with the Cobb as well.

Those mods with no tune might get you 20hp. With a tune, 75hp.

I'm looking to get a cobb AP before I get the tune sometime next month. But
My question is will I harm my motor running these
Mods on my stock ecu?

Yes you can install those parts before you get tuned. However, I would strongly suggest not to beat on the car until you get it tuned. Also do not wait too long to do so. I thought it would be a waste of money to get tuned before and after my initial mods. I installed all my bolt ons before getting tuned 3 months later. But for those 3 months I was plagued with overboosting and an occasional ses code.

Also throw a 3port on your list, you will get better results.

I have a few bolt ons and have had no issues for the past several months. Still runs rich and never overboosts. I'm also not using a cai, so in your case that very well may cause you some overboosting etc w/o a tune. A wideband and boost gauge would be smart.

Install everything except the intake. The bigger maf housing with throw your afr and few trims way off, not mention boost. Also the tp will se the cel off due to no cat.

^^^ Meh.. Do you know what intake he bought? It is impossible to say with out knowing what intake he has..

Anyway, go ahead and install the parts if you want to. Just don't beat on it a ton an you'll be good. The only thing that you really need to be concerned with is overboosting. With less restriction in the exhaust- because of the testpipe and downpipe- you can and will see higher boost spikes. But, if you don't go WOT, meaning you could even go in to light or medium boost- you will be fine, honestly. A lot of people over-exaggerate on tunes + parts. But yes, the tune will be the best "mod". You will see the best gains from the tune.

A tune is something you SHOULD NOT cheap out on. Go to the tuner with the best reputation in the area. Check out the regional section of this forum for advice. Every tuner "thinks" they are the best and knows everything about tuning a car. Take their customers word for it...
