Here's my twm cage with a works shifter, and torque solution 3'' ext.
It's in neutral, I bent the shifter forward because it was to cramped shifted into 2nd and 4th.

Ya, man.. I had to use extension as well..
without extension, this setup just isn't very friendly to drive.

Yeah I can't believe I ever had it as short as I could get it. The extension has been one of favorite purchases comfort wise.

I just bought one for 15% off on TWM website. I have 2014 with notchy as hell shifter, will post results once I get it installed. Which won't be for awhile if there are no warm days anytime soon. Last time I installed a short shifter for my 4G Eclipse GT in the dead of winter in my grandfathers garage, it sucked ***. So I'm not going through that again. The short shifter on my 4G GT was one of the most effective mods I had for that car. If this one is as good as that, its gonna be awesome. The GT had identical crappy plastic shifter cage. I'm curious if this one would fit it.
I will whip 10 donuts around the nearest Honda with a fart can If I can shift into second without having to baby it. The next time it snows anyway. BTW the nearest Honda with a fart can also has a huge *** spoiler on the back. Gotta have that downforce in your front wheel drive car.

Well, as anticipated, I couldn't wait. It showed up yesterday and I installed it today.
The installation was easy, but... The instructions that come with it are for older model Evo X. My 2014 has a different console configuration, which took a bit of figuring out before I could get it apart. The technique I used was, open the arm rest and take the bolts out of the bottom. Then grab the back of center console at the bottom and gently lift it straight up. Then gently pull back on it til it started coming loose. Once it started to pop loose all the other panels started to pop as well, so I grabbed screw driver and popped out the two other panels then just pulled back on the center console and removed it.
The instructions would have had me disassemble the shifter assembly before taking it out. Which was unnecessary with the full replacement. Once I unhooked the shifter cables, I just unbolted the whole thing and unhooked all the cables attached to it and removed it. Then I could follow the instructions. If I had to do it again, I could do it within an hour easily. But it took me about two hours, maybe a bit more because I did a lot of screwing around. I wasn't in a hurry.
I did have one issue, one of the holes for where the base bushings mount was a bit undersize. So I opened it up some with my dremmel, which I had because the directions told me I'd need it, although I didn't for anything other than this.
So once I got it installed I took it for a rip. The shifts are significantly shorter and far more rigid. I mean, it feels like you're shifting a proper sports car instead of a spongey economy car. The length of the shifter arm is fine for me. I've read some people prefer it to be a bit longer, but I think that would defeat the purpose and I like the feel as is. So I'm definitely shifting quicker, which is nice. I was unimpressed with how the Evo X shifted from the factory. With the short shifter mod it shifts more like you would expect it to. The distance between 3 and 4 is really short and smooth. I still have that notchiness shifting into second from first, but it has improved a little bit. Any improvement on that front is very welcome. The left to right action of the shifter has a lot of resistance, its a bit more than what I would have liked. I liked the factory feeling in that regard.
My final thoughts are, it is a worth while upgrade. I think I could have been happy with just the short shifter and left the cage, but it's hard to say without having tried it. I haven't really had much of a chance to play with it. But it was definitely putting a smile on my face, which I remember the same feeling from my 4G after I installed one in that. So I think it's something that I will grow to appreciate more as I get used to it. For the price, it will probably be one of the cheaper mods for reducing your 1/4 mile times by a significant margin. If you're wanting to mod your car and you don't have one of these kits, then you'll probably really enjoy the improvement. Another notch in the belt, each mod makes it that much better.

update:
After more use I have found that the shifts sync up far better than before. Ordinarily I some times have to try to manually rev sync by keeping my foot on the gas while shifting to get a smooth shift, but with this mod I have found that it's shifting so much more quickly that it's no longer necessary most of the time. And the issue I mentioned about the shifters side to side movement is loosening up some already, making it easier to handle and also improving the overall feel while shifting.

Another Update:
I have been using this shifter replacement for a couple months now. I guess it just needs a break in period. At this point, the shifts have improved drastically in comparison to the stock feel. There is almost no more notchy feeling when shifting from first to second and it's almost entirely gone from any other gear as well. You can still feel it catching a little bit where before it would have damn near prevented you from being able to perform a smooth shift. Shifting is much quicker, much more rigid and much much more smooth. It's night and day difference at this point. I can safely say now that anybody with a GSR should have this mod. The way I felt before when I was shifting was almost embarrassment at how horrible this "sports car" shifted. Now I am confident that it will shift the way people expect it to and not cause me to be too conscious about how I'm shifting so I don't end up looking like an idiot. I am extremely happy with this mod. It was totally worth it.
