Honestly my evo has 13.6k on it, and it always smells "hot". Evos run so hot that everything just heats up, and smells like garbage. I was nervous as well, but it seems to be normal. The smell should decrease over time though.

I have 3k on my 2012 MR and get the same smell. Not as bad as the first 1k. It's normal.

Mine only smells if I get on the throttle. But the cabin starts to smell like...well I don't know what. Reminds me of hair dye or some kind of hair chemical. When I was younger my grandma use to take me with her when she would get her hair done. For some reason that is what the smell links to in my brain. Like old lady getting their hair done.

Anyways 2012 with almost 4k miles and it still does it. But only when I seem to get into boost. Would it be a boost leak or just normal hot turbo smell?

The only time mine will smell is if I rev the engine... or have someone who doesnt know how to drive manual drive. You know, where they rev to 3k rpms before they start letting go of the clutch.

It's probably either your clutch or tires.

I think his exhaust was too close too one of the access panels and it heated up and melted the foam on the bottom.

Could be your t-case leaking onto your exhaust.

Can't speak for others but in my situation my car is stock so I would hope this isn't the case.

The one pattern I see in this thread is the people complaining about the smell (xRANGERxDANGERx, beantown, dhatw, and myself) all have a 2012.

And it isn't a clutch smell. Atleast I have never smelt a clutch smell like that. And when I get on the throttle or go into boost my foot is no longer on the clutch.

That's because the fireball (turbo) is so close to the cabin. All that smell is probably from the chemicals off the insulation material. Some say it's more efficient routing for the pipes but I hated it since DSM days.
