Ok to paint Rear Parking Assist Sensors?

I'm curious to know if the rear parking assist sensors can be safely painted to color match the rear bumper for the Evo X. The manual states only to keep dirt, snow, and ice off them because the sensors use ultrasound and such debris can interfere with their function. I've asked several different Mitsubishi dealerships and, admittedly, there are more leaning towards the "No to being painted" than to "Yes to being painted". I'd like to get a definitive answer before giving my body shop the green light. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

...I never knew the X has rear parking assist sensors. I'm pretty sure mine doesn't.

well the actuall eyelet that sends and receives the signal should not be covered in paint as that would be the same as smearing dirt or mud or snow over it. Usually there is the little "lip" around the eyelet that is just to hold it in place, and that should not have an issue

wait, so,

dealer tells you no

body shop tells you no

common sense should tell you no

manual says keep clear of dirt and ice (probably because they figured no one was dumb enough to paint it, and that the paint they made the car with was what would be on it forever)

so the theory here is that there's a loophole in the manual that something as opaque as ice chunks messes it up, but painting the whole thing somehow won't? And that the dealership is wrong, and that the body shop is wrong, and that the only reason you have never ever seen it done before ever is because no one thought of it?

go for it dude I'm sure it will be totally awesome

Hope this helps, I had the sensors install with dealer where the car was bought, the parking sensors are painted same as body colour. As you can see the small black ring in the centre of the sensor cannot be painted..
