Going from C6 to Evo x

Hello..new guy here. I am selling my C6 and looking to get into something w/ AWD and I think I've narrowed it down to the evo x mr. It will be a daily driver.

Any one on the board previous vette owners? Is there that much of a difference in power after a evo is tuned with a few bolt ons?

I miss having a turbo car ( 93 eclipse gsx) 87 Buick grand national...but I will say the torque and top end of the c6 is damn nice....just not a fan of the numb steering feedback and 6spd in daily driver traffic ..that with a move to the north east with snow just won't work.

My buddy has a C6 and I drive it all the time, my evo is way faster and way more fun to drive than his car. A few bolt-ons and a tune with a X and I think you would be very happy, not to mention wiht the AWD with northern weather.

Well I got to drive a LS3 C6 a few times, and I had the chance to open it up also.

I'll say my car tuned with a few bolt-on's feels very similar in speed under 100mph, but after 100mph the Vette won't have any issue walking away. But how often do you really go over 100mph anyway, not to mention you will always have traction with the Evo.

Handling is very controlled and easy to drive fast.

Not to mention the MR is sick, but I would do some extensive research before purchasing it especially if you want to mod it.

Never driven in a vette before so i cant comment to much on it. If i had the money i might trade the evo for a ZR1. That being said, anything else, i would keep the evo. I was tearing up a vette at the track.

Brother has a C6 LS3. Basic bolt ons and you could beat it in the 1/4, but if you want to run it from a roll your going to need a turbo upgrade. You will miss the bottom end torque. Try to keep both it if I were you and buy the Evo as your daily driver. Both cars are awesome.

I went down same path a few years ago. Check my sig. I really do miss the raw power and sound of the V8 but the evo is a year around high performance car.

Cooke how do you feel about the feedback in the steering wheel with the evo compared to the C6?

My c6 just feels so numb...like theirs no road feel in it to the steering wheel..I hate that..My RSX had so much more road feel to it...I dont know if I am getting my point across.....I just dont feel connected in my C6

Im hoping the Evo will bring the road back to life. Im trying to find a place right now to test drive them.

Ive done alot of internet research and it comes down to the 135i or Evo...and for the winter driving Im leaning towards Evo

I've never driven a C6 but the Evo has a ton of road connection/feel and that is why I love it! You will to. Plus the practicality of the Evo is unmatched. I've driven a lot of cars and can afford to drive pretty much any reasonably priced car ( no Italian cars but you get the idea) I enjoy a value performance ratio. The Evo is the perfect blend of value and performance.

whatever you do, don't go for a test drive in an evo - cuz that evo will be as good as sold if you do. the steering and suspension is probably has the most connected feel you'll ever feel in a sub $50,000 car.

This is exactly the type of info Im looking for.

I will probably be looking for a used MR soon, seems prices on the 08's with 40k miles or less have been in the $25k range. Looking forward to joining the the ranks of the Evo community. So far the site has been extremely helpful.

Im glad they didnt let me test drive it. The car is sluggish stock. I prolly would have kept my previous car. Now that i put a few $$$ into it im in love

Look at the cars I've owned before to let you know that we're on the same page. Anyway, as a testimonial to the EVO X MR, I sold my BMW M6 to get one (and had a Cadillac CTS-V before that!). Can't really compare to those vehicles, just like I can't compare my EVO to my GT-R. But as a good, all around, year round, high performance four door sedan with AWD, it's hard to beat.

I came from over 3 years of daily driving a 97 Cobra that was gutted down to roughly 2800lbs with no carpet, console, door panels, etc.

One drive of a 2006 IX 5spd and I'm ruined. I was expecting a lackluster laggy test drive judging by the looks. Instead it had a crazy Porsche connected feeling with amazing steering and sweet throttle response. The handling was astounding, the chassis very stiff and solid, power was not at all an issue neither was lag. It felt all aftermarket and worked up like someone's expensive whip, yet it was freaking stock! It's out-of-the-box tuned stiffer, rougher, and sharper than any Mustang I've driven. Closer to what I wanted all along.... I let the looks keep me away for too long before trying to drive one. Felt kind of odd asking to drive it at the dealer as if I was like coming out of the closet or something as a V8 guy with this secret desire to drive a 2.0 4banger. I'm somewhat exaggerating but part of me after waiting in the lobby was like "What am I doing here? Seriously? I have a Cobra parked outside and look at this thing!"...... But man I was wrong once I drove that car! Traded the Cobra right away!

On the highway you can stay in 5th at 70mph and have better passing power than a Cobra in 5th since the Evo is at peak torque RPM and the Cobra is at 2000rpm getting the same mileage.

Cobra: 2200rpm in 5th at 70mph, barely 25mpg highway, no passing power. Downshift to 4th totally kills mileage. Mods make mpg worse.

Evo: ~3300rpm in 5th at 70mph, easily seeing 28+ driving it properly, yet flooring it without a downshift provides a huge rush of passing power. Mods make mpg better (tune, bigger turbo spools less so better mpg, etc).

The best way to describe it would be that you really don't give up much power down low as people say. With a MIVEC tune on the 9, you will LOVE the low end response even as far down as 2500rpm. Sure it's gutless below 2000rpm but honestly my Cobra was too after the initial torque-lurch with little hp coming on even for the V8 DOHC. With either car you really just don't expect much from sub 2000rpm anyways. The Evo seems to quickly ramp up HP/Torque faster than the Cobra after about 2700rpm. Best of all there is no 1st-2nd rear end wobble, and when you'd *expect* to break the rear end loose with a perfect shift, it just snaps you back harder without a hiccup from the chassis!

I think you need to drive an IX 5spd first with MIVEC and ACD. It seems to be the only car that kept a former V8 owner like myself happy at all random rev points encountered during daily driving. Also remember that you don't have to always keep the revs below 2000rpm to get good mileage. You can drive all day at 2700rpm just one second away from 300ft/lbs+ power without a huge mpg penalty. You can't drive the V8 all day in it's peak torque range way up there at 4800rpm with peak power at 5800rpm and get any kind of MPG.

Oh and after all that, it's more practical with 4 doors, a nice sized trunk, and it's confident in the rain, snow, dirt, sand, gravel, you name it. You'll enjoy passing FWD cars in the snow and 4x4's alike when they used zing around a RWD in those conditions. The car is good at everything. I wondered why I compromised with a tin-can gutted V8 for so long. I'm happy with a full interior tuned stock turbo Evo IX with exhaust, boost controller, and tune. I'm buying another one in the next few months since I just can't get over selling it. I'm hooked!

You're in for the surprise of your life

^ Why are you talking about a IX when the OP is talking about getting an X MR?
