Installed Ultimate Racing Catback
Installed Ultimate Racing Catback
Just finished installing it a few hours ago. I have to say that noise level of exhaust is very subjective. I read it was LOUD but I think it's very quite. At least at idle and cruising. It has a great sound though. When you get on it is louder than stock. But cruising at 75 to 80 I don't hear it at all. The normal wind noise is louder. I still have the stock cat for now but will be upgrading to the test pipe and AMS downpipe soon so I'm sure it will get louder.
I'm not one to usually be able to tell power differences that easily. Felt nothing when I installed my ETS intake. But I think I may be able to tell something with this. Or maybe it's just in my head because of the noise it makes. I'm still untuned. Waiting to get the test pipe, downpipe and ETC IC kit.
It has a little popping between gears but I figure that is normal. Untuned and less restriction I'm assuming but nothing bad. Actually sounds good. Overall the exhaust is awesome. I like how it's welded to make the turns rather than bent. Very clean looking exhaust. Took less than half an hour to install with my friend once he ran and bought a new jack since it broke when we tried to lift the car.
This was the first exhaust I ever installed. I did have to mangle the heat shield that was overhanging the flange on the stock cat as the flange was a little too big on the UR pipe but nothing like I read here. I just stick a screw driver in there and bent it up and down. Fits tight, but it fits and like I said, the cat is a goner afte Xmas anyways.
I do wish UR included a photo of how it's supposed to look put together. I got it right the first time but maybe something showing it bolted together on the ground. I would have worried less about whether I was going to have to take it all apart because I did something wrong. But I didn't. I also don't understand why the gasket kit is an extra since you need them. But it was less than 20 bucks so that's no big deal either.
Overall very happy. My roommates room is above the garage and I don't think this will be so loud that it will drive him nuts when I start it in the morning.
A few photos for now. Couldn't get a good shot in the parking structure from the rear. Too dark.

I got the titanium straight cut non rolled tips. I don’t like the rolled. Looks more stockish. I like the "roughness" of the thin metal. Just seems more "race car" to me, lol. The kind of unfinished made for a purpose look, not made for a look, look. If that makes sense.
I will try to post photos later. Is there a way to post photos from an iphone? Maybe post to flicker first?

Yea, it's a great sounding exhaust. I tried to get some recordings for youtube but my iphone just cant seem to capture it correctly. We have a guy at work that does a lot of video work for our marketing so I may ask him if I can borrow his sound recorder. I think it will do a better job than the iphone.
I researched the ETS and Greddy as well. I listened to a lot on youtube so I think those were the other two I was consideing. But I just happened pull up next to another Evo in my area that had the UR and got to hear it in real life. Beyond sound, I think it's the best looking of the 3. But it's all personal taste.

I have the same exhaust but I got the rolled tips. I think the color looks better and slightly different on the rolled tips in my opinion. I also have the ams test pipe and downpipe. I don't know what it sounds like with a stock downpipe and test pipe, but with the ams downpipe and test pipe it's much louder than a full stock exhaust. My first choice was the Greddy SE but it's discontinued.
