Downshifting

Hey guys of course you can tell Im a noob but when you downshift do you give it a little gas as you downshift or put it in to gear first then gas?

Also what is an unsafe RPM to down shift from?

Sorry I forgot to add. For racing not DD

I speed match when I down shift. Idk I think it might just be a preference?

downshift sequence:

-clutch in
-drop gear
-tap the gas (rev-match)
-release clutch
-pedal to the metal/carpet

if you're racing, you want to downshift at a point in your rpm where you wont be hitting redline/limiter. with the amount of tq this car has, you shouldn't have to downshift unless you're below 3.5k rpm or you're on 4th/5th gear. but i dont race/compete so take this with a grain of salt.

its not a preference. its a matter of your synchros going out on you prematurely. when you downshift without rev matching, you're putting unnecessary stress on the tranny.

According to the meme thread, you're supposed to downshift when you are next to a Toyota Prius.

Correct.

Rev match when you can but hard braking I slip the clutch. Either way just do it smoothly.

step on the brake, then clutch, drop gear while rev-matching (heel-toe), release the clutch then gas all the way.

How do you heel-toe in an X? It is impossible in my experience. I rev match when downshifting, but heel toe is something that I can't do in my car.

Our transmissions are syncronized. Just shift down when its neccesery.
there is no reason to rev match the transmission in the evo, that is a reason why its syncronized for gear selecting. Hence you can get " locked" out.
Many many people.actually does run slower times on tracks because they pay too much attantion on the rev matching.

Tap the gas(rev match)
Drop the gear
release the clutch
Pedal to the metal/carpet.

The right order.

No you are not. The stock transmission works with syncros. The name alone explains itself.
I do rev matching to keep the car balanced before or in the turns if its neccesery. Other words keep the car attitude on the smooth side.
