Question First Time Maintance Service

So I'm approaching 3000 miles on my 2012 EVO X and I'm debating where I should take its first oil change. Since I have a tune and mods on my evo should I shy away from my dealer and do it my self/RRE (Road Rance Engineering)?

Any benefits of taking it to the dealer for the first time besides the complementary oil change? Do they check other things that I will be forfeiting when not taking into the dealership? I don't want to take in in for regular maintenance and have them deny something because I have a tune. Maybe I'm just too worked up on it.

I'm probably going with AMSOIL Signature series 5w-30 or Redline. Good choice for a tuned EVO or Mobil 1 Synthetic 5w-30 good enough with OEM Filter? I'm in SoCal, CA.

Thanks, look forward to your replies.

I might be going against the norm here.. but I usually take it to the local Mobile One oil change station here.. I bring my OEM filter with me and I have them change the oil with the standard Mobile 1 oil 5w-30.

One would say I am crazy , but in my case I knew the owner of the place. And I observed all my oil changes and I know who works on my car.

Now that might not answer your question , so let me get back to it

1) I honestly stay away from dealerships in general , unless i really have to go to them.
Also they shouldn't be doing diagnostics on your ECU.. your in just for an oil change.

2) I would go to your local performance shop that has a positive reputation to do your oil changes. If not do it yourself!

3) I would personally stick to the mobil 1.. even though you have mods, your under warranty even with your mods.. if something happens to your engine and it goes boom! on a unrelated mod defect... then they can't blame it on your oil ( sounds stupid but I've seen it happen)

hopefully that helps.

Id hav to agree with above. If your only going to be doing an oil change tho, id say do it yourself. its so easy so why bother taking it somewhere. personally for an oil filter i just use a k&n hp-1004.

I agree with FastAttack. Steer away from the dealership, either change it yourself or go to one of the shops you like. I would personally continue using Mobile 1 for the same reasons listed above.

Doing it yourself, performance shop, dealership...all good choices.

Went to Wal-Mart and purchased Mobil One's Extended Performance 5-30. It was only sale for 26 bucks and bought a OEM oil filter from Mitsubishi.

thanks for the replies.

Just make sure you keep receipts, so if in future you need a warranty claim. and they look in the computer and according to them it is due to you missed an oil change. better to have it and not need it than need the receipt for what was done and not have it.

If you're going to use Amsoil use the Dominator. Has higher zinc content. Approved by FP for their turbo's too.

Since I'm on a stock engine with just bolt-ons, I'm using Mobil1. FWIW.

Do it yourself if you don't really know what is going on at the shop.

Where in OC are you? I am in Aliso Viejo. I usully take it to Jiffy Lube. They have Mobile 1. They are fast. Less than 100 bucks. I buy the Royal Purple filter from Pep Boys and have them install it. Usually 15 min from the time I arrive to the time I leave. And it's about 200 yards from my house. I use to do my SUV myself. But I didnt have to jack it up and I realized, "Hey I have a job, I make money, I am not a oil changer. Why get my nails dirty. I will pay somebody else to get dirty"

Although Jiffy Lube did lie to me. Said they added windshield washer fluid. They never opened the trunk. LOL I didnt call them out on it. Maybe next time I will for fun.

We checked you washer fluid.

I didnt see you open the trunk.

Why would we open the trunk?

LOL

Yeah I bought some Mobile One last night. Looks like we have similar mods. So I'm sure I should be fine haha.

IMO it's all about frequency.

I laugh a little when I hear someone tell me that because they ran synthetic they can go like 10-12k between oil changes. If want to be a total jerk I usually ask if they change the filter ever 3-5k during that period.

I'm in Orange and yeah there's a Jiffy Lube the next street over and I take my DD 98 Subaru Impreza there . They run down the little check list and in my head I know they didn't do any of that stuff.

Do it yourself, it's easy as long as you can borrow a lift. The first time I did my maintenence was at a Mitsubishi dealer that wouldn't let me watch my own car for "safety reasons".
