Winter is around the corner

There is no snow yet but as I was driving my car said caution ice or something to that affect. Crazy I didnt even know it told you that kind of stuff.

Anyways just wondering do you guys put your winter setup when there is snow on the ground already or when the temps go below 30 degree. If I remember correctly you are not suppose to use winter tires over a certain degree but Im not sure what that is.

Thank you in advance.

Generally I wait until the temperatures stabilize to 40-50 F when I decide to change out to winter tires.

Or you can just swap them out when you want, just don't drive too often or the rubber in winter tires will eat up much faster.

I live in MN so it plays tricks on me. One day it will snow another day its 50 degree and all the snow melts then its snow a few more days and goes below 0 degree lol something like that.

I generally put my snow tires on around middle of November in WV.

It's more of a temperature concern than a snow concern at this point. The stock tires (and most summer tires) don't play nice in cold weather.

Hmm I see. I would go ahead and switch the tires in November, like was mentioned above.

I don't think using winter tires for a little bit in semi-arm weather will ruin the tires. I would rather ruin my tires than use the stock tires in the winter and risk getting into an accident IMO.

I put my tires on a week ago up here in Canada and we have seen a foot of snow already. I usually put my winters tires on as late as I can but this year the weather change over night, I am just glad it did it over a weekend so it gave me the chance to change them out.

I almost bought some all season tires today but am now debating just not swapping tires for the winter bc I might not have to drive it in the snow and just carpool to work...decissions decissions

khmerguy, you should be on EvoMN where we discuss this kind of thing. My son Joshua puts his tires on when the forecast looks like snow. Last year, he waited until the 3rd week in November. This year, it is hard to predict. If you have snow tires, I would get them on within a couple of weeks.

I just finished putting on mine, I usually do it last days of October as the temperature settles around 30-50 degrees.
