FQ 400 Hood

Just curious if there is any down side to replacing the stock evo x hood with the fq 400 style hood. Maybe not the real one but that style with the larger vents? I always wondered why I dont see many of them out there. Actually I have never seen one in real life. In the photos online they look so much more aggressive than the stock. Seems like beyond that it would also let more cold air in, hot air out. Is it just the expense keeping people from buying this? Or maybe Quality compared to stock? Something else I am missing?

Thanks

No apparent downsides. It appears that it allows for more ventilation, not that expensive, the CBD CF version seems quality. It's on my list.

The guilt trip worked? LOL I am curious about those big vents and rain. Anything directly below them that would be hurt if it got that much water on it? I am in So Cal so the car doesn't see much rain but I am curious. I am really shocked more people don't have it. I understand the whole body kit debate, but just that hood is pretty cool looking. Although I would like to see it in real life. It's basically the stock hood only more aggressive. I like the raised scoop. Thinking it will make the car look better from the side. That's the only angle I don't like it from. Seems like the front area is so "thin" from the side view. Of course I am going to paint it even if it is Carbon Fiber. Who do you think makes the most accurate looking replica? I have been looking around and they all seem to be a little different. Sometimes it's hard to catch the differences between the replicas and the real FQ 400. Once place has it for 1700 for fiberglass. I think it's Vivid. Jap Parts seems to have more of a cost effective one. Just wish I could find a place in the US to save on shipping. I was hoping to stay under a grand but if I have to spend 1700 to get the closest to the real thing, I guess I will do that after I get done with engine and suspension mods.

Thanks

Not many people have it because not many people want to spend that much money on a hood.

maybe go with seibon or carbon by design... they should be in your budget and look close to the real thing. next up would be the varis hood, looks better than the fq in my opinion

good luck on your search!

and hoods do not make you go faster, improve braking or handling.

Not sure where this has any relevance. I never assumed the hood would make the car faster or handle better. Just curious if there were any downsides such as water damage to the engine.

I've never seen it in person but I did see it in a issue of Modified Mag with that yellow X. I really like the looks of the FQ400 hood. I doubt it would do any damn to your engine if you got a little water in there..just make it a little dirtier maybe.

I think we are doing it for aesthetics more than anything else

stock hood is nice and light weight already.

Fishtix is right... I wouldnt spend that money on the actual Do Luck either.. Replica in my personal opinion is sufficient. But, some people need to have the real thing

I'd think an FQ 400 hood would be OK in rain... the Brits have them. LOL

That's why I thought about it. But it won't be until after I do the engine mods and get the tune. Then maybe hood to change it up a little then save for some coil overs. Or maybe do the hood last. I dunno. I just like the way it looks and sometimes I get bored having the car look the exact same.

I am not looking to spend thousands on it. If I can get it under a grand it would be ok. My friend can paint it at his house for me for free. I will just have to buy the material.

Lot's of things I want but first is more power than stock! If Santa Clause treats me like the last few years, then those evelopes I open xmas morning from parents and grandparents will be my ticket to POWER! Who says you have to be a kid to like envelopes full of cash?

If you leave the hood up, while parked, you will encounter water and weather issues inside the engine bay. Further, it's been tested that driving while the hood is open can impair your visibility and, according to the manufacturer specs, is not recommended.
