intake+exhuast.. will i need a tune?

Im about to install my ets intake and cnt exhaust and was wondering if i would need a tune with both? i know a tune will make those more efficient but i wanted to wait till i get uicp, test pipe and downpipe so i dont have to keep getting tunes for everything, i will be getting a open source tune and hopefully on 93 octane maybe e85.

So I can have everything I listed without a tune? I thought I would need one with the downpipe and test pipe?

Well, it's your car and, while there are lots that will tell you your 08 is rich, it's a risk you'll have to decide to take. There are a bunch of factors that will affect the car (humidity, air temp, elevation, etc) and your ECU will do its best to sort it out and keep the tune safe. An intake and exhaust will certainly affect the mixture (and performance) and most manufacturers will advise having the car tuned with an intake and DP/ exhaust. Most shops will tune the car now and then, as you add mods retune the car for just a bit more. This is what I recommend.

It's an expensive car and I suggest betting on a bunch of posts (including mine) as definitive guidance as to how your specific car will react to mods is probably not your best play. Do the right thing and get the car tuned. Add mods, and tune it again, and again, and again - as necessary to keep the motor safe and happy.

Yeah very true, ill prolly get my test pipe uicp and boost controller then get a tune. Then get another tune with the downpipe and a few other things. Thanks for the advice

I've lurked for quite a while now on this forum and I've always searched for this topic because I've heard answers go both ways from different drivers... I have been driving my car with the artisan downpipe back exhaust (built in test pipe) and the AEM CAI for some time now and I haven't noticed any issues. I was planning on waiting for just a couple more mods to get a tune, but what possible issues could I be running into here? I've never found a clear answer of what kind of actual disasters could happen when running intake+exhaust without a tune?

If the intake doesn't change the MAF housing diameter than it's fine.

Can't find the thread right now, but on buschur's forum they had a pretty basic mod path and they dyno'd every mod in great detail.

I believe they had intake, uicp, licp, larger fmic, catback exhaust and mbc set at 22 psi to redline and they were still safe on the afr's with no fuel upgrades and no tune.

Not saying the mods won't vary from car to car but they made it seem like the stock tune was plenty rich to support all of those mods.

I remember they did run into.issues with the test pipe throwing a cel though.
