How long have you owned your X? Have you not taken a look under the hood? The OE CMC is PLASTIC. It's *known* to fail, even with the stock clutch, but especially with an aftermarket pressure plates.

It has less to do with how "fast" you shift, because there's a restrictor pill in the cylinder that slows the travel of the brakefluid. However if you go to a higher pressure plate, the pressure in the CMC increases, and the plastic doesn't hold up as well as the cast metal that has been in previous generations.

Except I was slowing down into an intersection, and clutched in to downshift when it popped.

What scares you? The fact that an OEM part has been identified as a weak point, discussed countless times throughout this and other forums, and several well regarded companies have designed superior replacement solutions? Or the fact that all this has occurred and there are still owners replacing their stock clutches with stronger aftermarket units but not changing their plastic CMC, and are surprised when it fails?

It will fail, and, until it does, you will worry about it failing. When it does fail you will be in the midst of doing something important. You will complain that it shouldn't have happened, as you weren't hard on it at all. Your CMC should have been different, special, your plastic was somehow stronger, less brittle and dammit, you are a good person, it's just not fair!

Just change it already. AMS, Magnus, SSP - pick one.

I knew I was on borrowed time, wasn't that big a surprise to me. Just sucks, and now I have to get it fixed.

I was actually wondering why you'd upgrade the clutch but not the MC, especially when the stock one is known to be a major failure point. I'd feel like I'm driving a time bomb.

All in all, worse OE parts could be known to be a failure point.

If you CMC fails it leaves you stranded needing a tow and that definitely sucks, but it's not head, engine, trans, diff or turbo known for failure, so really people should stop freaking out.

Please shoot me a PM if you are interested.
i bought and installed this just before this thanksgiving. The install sucks but i've had zero problems with it. the cmc is just in a super tight space which makes working on it suck. I cant speak to the quality of other kits, but this one is nice.

I would stay away from SSP.. seems like AMS/Magmus is the way to go now..

my SSP v3 had issues again. They replaced it under 1 year warranty. But now that the warranty is over, I don't know what will happen next year..

I have customers who are really happy with the Magnus units.

I'm about 6k miles into my ACT HDSS clutch and new OEM flywheel on my 2010 with a Cobb OTS Stage I, and I'm doing ok, but I'm paranoid about the CMC. I'm really thinking about picking up the AMS CMC for piece of mind, especially since I plan to go Stage II in the next 6 months.

Look guys, if you upgrade your clutch and wait to upgrade cmc, your probably gonna get stranded. It is not a matter of if but when. Even if you have it and wait for that moment when pedal goes straight to the floor. A few hr install and fluids and back on road, rather than wait for parts, plus time to install or even have shop do it... Your looking at days instead of hours of down time.
