What exactly all do you cover in the engine bay? All I know of is the intake, alternator, battery, and turbo? Ill probably be spraying it down with a high pressure washer or just a hose then using scrubbing bubbles.
Well I would take the engine cover off and then plastic cover the coil packs for sure. Like you said Alternator and there's no batter (that's in the trunk), but the big distribution block, ecu and fusebox 100%.
I would cover the filter and avoid hitting the MAF sensor plastic. Probably avoid the pigtails to the fuel injectors too

Everytime i want to clean the engine bay i get scared. Heard too many bad story's when doing it. But make sure you cover everything(Parts you already said) and don't use alot of pressure when cleaning it with water, Or just use hose a regular water hose is the best thing to use. Also dont point the hose to close to any parts/Wires in the engine bay just so you don't cause any problems for yourself.

I always hose off my engine bay....never had any problems. Water gets in there regardless. I do it after the car has come up to temp....turn it off and then hose it down. The engine heat helps to evaporate all the water a bit quicker. I wouldnt worry about it. As for what I would cover....only the intake filter if you have one. If you are OEM then you should be good to go!

I've always hosed engine, sometimes with power washer. All I've ever covered was the air filter since it is open type. If your on factory air box, maybe cover inlet. Let your motor cool before you go putting water on it though. Something cant handle rapid cooling down. I've never had any issues. If your first time make sure your oil cap, coils are all properly secured and you'll be fine. If the motor components weren't able to withstand some water, we'd have sealed engine bays. I mean ask the rally guys here how wet their motors get at times. They are still running fine. I'm not saying submerse engine bay in lake and start scrubbing either.
