Am I insane for doing this?
If you plan to keep it stock then there is no worries about reliability. It's a great car either way. If your finances are in tack then I would say go for it.
The trunk is pretty small and the interior can be noisy. But all in all it's a great car and I wouldn't buy another car unless I absolutely needed an SUV later in life but still will try to keep my evo if I could.

When you consider buying the evo, be sure you figure in the heavy repair cost to maintain the car. Tires will only last MAX 20k miles before they are pretty shot. For a cheap tire youll be looking at about 700$ just for tires. I've done many long road trips in my evo wit the family and it's just too loud. Also the trunks really small for luggage, strollers, or pretty much anything bigger than a small dog lol. I ended up getting a second car just for that purpose. Ended up getting a 2011 VW Jetta TDI, and man its night and day between comfort for long trips, not to mention the 48mpg I average on the highway compared to the Evos 20ish.
Really? I saved $800/year on insurance when I replaced the Evo with a Cayman S. The Geico rep said "yes, Evos get crashed much more often than Porsches".

I DD my evo, its a harsh ride at first, but once you get used to it its great. Yesterday there was a snow storm here, put my car in snow mode and drove off np. Even got annoyed with everyone driving slow lol the evo's AWD is truly amassing. If you have the money I say buy it.
Also, if Cayman S. has a lower crashed record in your city then EVO, your insurance would go down , too. It make sense.
In my city, STI has a higher crash rate than EVO. That is why I said my EVO insurance is cheaper than the STI one.
I'd pick it up, I was iffy at first about buying an Evo because of practicality issues since I would have to DD mine and make 4 hour long trips to go snowboarding but in the end I have no regrets whatsoever, I just keep telling myself I'll buy a cheap DD because I can't stand watching the miles rack up so fast on such a beautiful hard to obtain car
Car wise, it's an awesome decision. The jeep is lame compared to an evo. Financially wise, I think seeing you just bought the jeep you will be making a poor decision. I don't' see why people buy dumb suvs in the first place but oh well.
The X kind of sucks for a daily driver and long trips. The interior is obnoxiously loud on the freeway, the car is super stiff and the front seats start hurting my back after 45-1hour driving. Also remember the steering wheel doesn't tilt. Unless you have an actual daily driver its a bad idea especially if you concern is family comfort lol. As far as reliability, stock, no issues. Expensive car tbh, at Lear the MR is. I love my Evo but I quickly figured out this isn't the kind of car you'll want to drive everyday.
