To be honest, I'm not an expert in blacked out tail lights but I believe you can either tint them or buy a spray specific to tinting tail lights.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong please.

First thing is determine the year.
2003 - 2007 or 2008+ (just use images.google and search for Evo and match what looks like his, it will be obvious)

Then, you can start searching the web. There's a sub-forum area on here with lots of vendors. Most list their location so you can find one close maybe?

I'm guessing more than likely he's talking about tail lights someone tinted/painted themself, or some LED tail lights off of ebay. However, if he has a 2008/09 EvoX, then he has the solid red taillights. The newer X's have the "Ralliart" tails, they have clear lenses.

Here's what they look like:

hope that helps somehow

Yea to begin with, make sure what year he has. 2003-2006 is the same and 2008-2013 is the same.

If he wants actual blacked out tail lights, go with a good name brand like LaminX. (I think that is a good brand. I hate tinted tails, so I've never looked into it myself..) I think it's normally like 40 bucks.

Like ^^ said the 2008 Evos have red- or really more of a pink- tails. If that's what he has, he prolly wants Ralliart Taillaights. The OEM ones are around $350 but you can get some knock-off ebay lights for around $180.

Are you going to pay your boyfriend's tickets, too?

By South Bay, I'm assuming you're meaning San Jose, which is where I work. Trust me, the CHP here will be more than happy to pull him over and ticket him for blacked out or tinted tail lights.

probably the most useful post yet. Depending where you live will determine if you should go tinted tail lights or not, and if so, how dark.

Cops here in Edmonton are pretty chilled as long as you dont act like a retard on the streets. Here is my car with stock tail lights with the following process...

wet sand with 1500grit sand paper
3 light coats of vht nightshade
3 light coats of clear coat
wet sand with 200grit paper
4 coats of polish
4 coats of protective wax

honestly black tinted tail are the gayest thing.

1. they are illegal.
2. they are ugly.
3. they are pointless because they dont give off a bright enough red light.
