Check Engine Light

Hi All

Just got this strange situation.
Juz bought a secondhand evo 10.

2 issues so far.

Issue 1.
So all was good when i got it, i drive mostly on friday or weekends.
But when my wife drives, the check engine light came on.
Then it went off.
When she drove it came on again.
Im not sure if this is a coincidence or can it be due to her driving.

Issue 2.
One day i decided to use the sports mode an give the car a go. After a spirited run, I change back to normal and noticed the fuel bar jumped up instead of down!

Not sure if both are related but any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Code-readers cost less than $40 these days. I would get one, because the good replies to these threads ask for the code.

Like Iowa suggested a code read can really help out a lot. Also, you can get most codes pulled from an Autozone for free, but having a reader is a good idea.

Another route to go for a reader (if you use Android) is a bluetooth ODB2 reader and an app on your phone, like Torque. Then you can also do some very basic monitoring and can clear codes too.

If your wife filled the car, maybe she didn't turn the gas cap a few clicks to assure it's sealing? Just a guess of something you can try until you get the codes read.

+1 on what they said....as far as your fuel gauge...it jumps around some its no big deal...depending on the slope you are on...so if you are parked at even a slight angle when you turn your car on it might give you a reading that is a notch off the actual amount of fuel...then a moment later when driving it might come back up to normal...I know you said you were driving so all the sloshing around in the tank might have thrown it off if you were in the twisties

From Bump drafting, fuel economy goes up... we can save a little fuel by sitting 6" off the leaders bumper.
