Evo X 2008 (New) - List of tunes - XP advice needed.
Hi there
"New" Evo X 2008, unsold and driven 29 miles, never registered vehicle that I bought. Here´s my list of tunes that I'm thinking of, need advice and other input from the more seasoned tuners.
1) Buscur Cat Back with quiet muffler.
2) Buschur down pipe.
3) Better clutch - which one?
4) Buschur IC upgrade with pipes
5) Buschur Air intake
6) Short shift
7) 19" Rims
I can get most of these at the www.lancershop.com, they ok?
Thanks.
Simon

Be nice....
You have a nice list of "mods" there. When you are done you"ll need a "tune". I recommend having a professional tune from a good shop that can also help with installation of the parts.
I further suggest you do,some more research on your mods. They are fine but you should think about what you are trying to accomplish with the car, driving style, etc, and then get the mods based on those results.
So, do some searches here. But, you need to add a CMC upgrade, when you do the clutch (try Competition Clutch).

I wouldn't do Buschur. Check out ETS.
I had the Buschur Catback with quiet muffler. It sounds great.. But it hangs waaayyyy too low. I hit stuff on the muffler at the stock height.
ETS has an awesome choice of parts, including a quiet Catback, a better downpipe than the Buschur one, a better intake, etc.. And I would say their intercooler is better too. You can order all ETS parts through them or other vendors. Check out Maperformance.com. They have great deals and can hook you up with lots of parts.
Again, like ^^^ said, they are called mods not tunes. You will need a tune to make sure the car will run safely and make great power. The stock 2008 X tune is pretty bad. It is really rich and doesn't make much power.
A good tune is the best thing you can do, even if you don't mod anything else on the car..

The stock clutch is fine so save your cash. If the clutch wears out in the future, then replace it.
If you get a downpipe, get an O2 downpipe. This replace the O2 housing, which is where the restrictions are with the stock setup.

LOL Rob, his location is Iceland, probably english as a second language. I bet there's no direct translation for stuff.
OP: Congrats on the find! Is it an EUDM Evo? Make sure to swap the fuel pump relays, and have your ECU flashed to cover the TSB's for the past few years. You'll want to make sure someone verifies the TCase was not overfilled too.
I agree with kirk, check out ETS. Great quality, good pricing.
On your list of mods, I would say stay away from 19's. You'll keep better performance just sticking with 18's, although I completely understand wanting a different look than the Enkei's.

^^ Yea ETS is great and their customer service is top-notch.

And I agree the clutch. Don't worry about getting a new clutch yet. It is not needed..

Do you mean like, 19's sound bad, or the idea of 19's sound like a bad idea. I would be thinking the latter.
No, I used to sell tires for about 5 years, and it was common that once you go from an 18 to a 19 for a tire, the selection of tires drops immensely. Also, the ability to find a tire that is designed for performance is hard too. Generally if you go to a tire that is designed for a wheel that's 10"+ wide, there are some companies that still make a tire for performance, but generally once you plus size to a 19, you'll be sacrificing performance of the tire.
Because of it all, I just suggest he stick with an 18, however I remember how I felt about my stock GSR wheels. They were great and all, I just really felt I wanted a different look.

Seems like you're a fan of Buschur products, which is fine. He's been a solid vendor here for quite a while. I would recomend you get his "Crossflow" catback rather than the "Quiet" since not only is it quieter, it fits better too. Both are 3" and make the same power.
Absolutely zero reason to upgrade the clutch, especially with the list of mods you've stated. My stock clutch is still holding up just fine at 51k miles making 425/400.
Why do you want 19" wheels?

Hi and thanks for all the posts!
Yes I'm in Iceland so tunes vs. mods, got it now.
I'm not a particular fan of Buscur but I thought I'd go for something known and tested, that can be any brand etc. so nothing is nailed down.
The ETS products looked very good.
Updated list of mods.
1) ETS quiet exhaust v2.
2) ETS IC with upgraded piping.
3) ETS Downpipe.
4) Upgraded air intake - ?
5) Short shift.
6) HID OEM Light upgrades from H3b.
7) Other minor upgrades for enhanced looks.
Going to the dealer and get the flash upgrades and have a regular check just in case before I start adding the mods.
Not upgrading the clutch seeing that every here things the OEM one is fine.
About the 19", they just look better, 18" is just standard on anything worth a dime today and the latest GTs are now shipping with 19" and "20, gotta keep up
Is there any standard performance tune that can be added to the car at my local Mitsubishi center since there doesn't seem to be any pro tunes for the Evos here.
Thank you!

For an intake, the ETS one is really great quality and fitment. Since you like what you see on their site, might as well keep it all the same.
Downpipe is not worth doing unless you're going to change your turbo, or you've done the rest of the bolt-ons. However, a 3port Electronic Boost Control Solenoid (EBCS), like a Grimmspeed is definitely worth it if you are going to get tuned.
For the short throw shifter, you might want to just get this: http://www.maperformance.com/krackas-ultimate-shifter-package-by-map-mitsubishi-evo-x.html#.UPnBPuK8wss
Everything from shifter to bushings to fluids to really help make the GSR shifter bearable.
Wheels will be totally up to you, but in my opinion, stick with a set of 18x9.5 +22 - +15 I love the fitment of mine being +20.
