Which EVO MR should I buy?

I am about to make the switch from WRX to an EVO, and I want the MR. I am looking for some feedback based on the info below...

Car options so far:

New 2013 EVO MR, Phantom Black, Premium Package & Interior Package - $38,800

New 2013 EVO MR, Mecury Grey, Base - $36,400

Used 2012 EVO MR, Mercury Grey, Premium Package & Nav Unit, 10K miles - $34,000

My thoughts...

I like the suede/leather seats. I wish I could just get the seats upgraded.

I want the upgraded sound system, but could always do that aftermarket.

I think I like both colors equally, but the grey looks meaner to me. Am I crazy?

I do not care about the Nav Unit, Interior Package, and most other add-ons with the Prem Pkg.

The Fast-key does seem cool, but also is unnecessary for me.

Am I missing anything that is really significant in the package(s) that doesn't come on the base MR?

I think theses are all pretty fair prices, assuming the 2012 has a clean history. Am I right in thinking that? If I can afford one of the 2013s, should I just bite the bullet and go new? Or is the 2012 with the options a really good deal?

Thanks in advance for any input!

if you can afford new/best, always go with it. you'll thank yourself later

or more accurately, you won't be kicking yourself later.

< had a TB GSR for 5 1/2 years before finally getting into a WW MR

I agree with the above.

btw Fast Key is probably the only thing that you won't be able to put after you buy the car ( you could but most people here agree its a lot of work to do so) .. I love my Fast key system

Yeah the FastKey is really nice! Also with the Premium sound/nav package you can control all the bells and whistles from the touch screen and don't have to take it to a dealer for that stuff. You can change blinkers/wipers/FastKey stuff.
I would have to agree with buying new.

Thanks a lot, but maybe I should have worded it differently... I'm really trying to get an opinion on what the best bang for the buck is?

I may have the option of getting leather seats on a new base model MR, then I could do the other upgrades on my own (sound system, lighting, etc), and make them more personalized and maybe get better bang for my buck on those items also. Obviously, excluding the fast-key, if it as difficult as you say. I figure alot of people go the route of aftermarket upgrades?

In reference to the fast-key, I saw it, I live in the city and worry that it looks like a key in the ignition, which could make it more likely for someone attempting to break into the car... Any thoughts on that feeling?

Yeah, the used one is the only one in my price range with the premium package and Nav unit. The new one with the prem pkg does not have the touch screen... Does that mean I don't have the "control" you are talking about?

I can't afford a new one with the prem pkg and Nav unit and/or touring pkg.

I plan on finding a way to mount my iPad (as I did in my current car).

... Nevermind about the looks of the fast key, I just saw a video that shows it is easily removed if needed.

You can barely even see the fastkey cover in the ignition barrel. If you really wanted to.. it's just a plastic cover on it that comes off with the push of a button.

I love the full leather seats and absolutely love the Nav/Touch screen system. I got the MR with every package.

If I were you I would go with this:
New 2013 EVO MR, Phantom Black, Premium Package & Interior Package - $38,800

Ask them to throw in JUST the nav/screen to seal the deal. If it's a stealership they should do it to get the sale.

Ok, so mark one for having downs...

Use KBB or similar website to know your facts when buying. Dealers will most of the time sell a new car for invoice. Not just magically throw a $2500 nav system in for free and lose money.

If your credit is good you should be able to obtain 2% interest so calculate your monthly payment based on that. Don't overbuy buy get what you car clearly afford. You will enjoy it more.

So far the dealerships do not seem very willing to negotiate and I am not acting like I'm ready to buy at the current prices. I'm just saying this bc I don't see them just adding $2000 Nav pkg for free.

Agreed and thanks for input... Trust me, I am doing math on different loan lengths and interest rates like crazy. I can actually get .49 for 4 yrs or .99 for 5 yrs if I go a certain route (at worst 1.49). I am also trying to decide how much the great feeling of new car is worth vs just saving some money and having no payments. My WRX is in great shape, but 9 years old... Trying to do a private sale if I buy an EVO.

Clearly, you are the one with downs as I did negotiate and got a lot thrown in.. more than 2k.

Take it or leave it... it was just my experience

Just be clear, I was not agreeing that you had "downs", I actually didn't even pay attention to that comment. I was more just stating that so far, any negotiations I've tried have not had an affect yet. And I consider myself a pretty good at haggling.

All the new car prices above seem to be below or real close to invoice and in the "great" category based on "true market value" (what others are paying). All that being said, I am sure if I find the right dealership, I may get a better price. However, there aren't tons of new MRs out there. Even when doing a nationwide search, there aren't many in the configuration I want... Usually I feel dealerships will negotiate cars as they are, instead of making additions or changes or additions.

I appreciate the input.
