Do stock brake pads make a ton of noise?
This has been my only real complaint with the car, and I knew exactly what I was getting into so it's not really a big deal.
But my X brakes are *so* much louder than my IX brakes ever were. It's so bad I'm nervous coming home at 3am simply because I'm pissing off the neighbors. I'm used to some noise here and there but with my X it's every time I brake. Anything under 30mph and it's so bad I've changed my braking habits to brake harder instead of slowly and gradually just to keep the noise down.
I may just change them out early for something less loud. I'll try blasting them with the hose next time I rotate tires and see if that helps. I'm only at 7,000 miles.....

My brakes only squeal after dressing my tires with Armor All tire shine; must be the thin mist that dries on discs. Takes a couple days for the noise to go away. When I don't dress tires, brakes don't squeal. Perhaps its just the tire shine brand I use that causes this issue.
I tried every trick in the book to stop my OEM pads from squealing and nothing worked. Of course the colder it was the louder it got...nails on a chalkboard come to mind. That slow stop at every light and stop sign was brutal. This was at 7K miles, never tracked or but saw the occasional spirited driving in the mountains.
Finally just got Ceramic pads (Hawk) and the car has been silent since. Not a single squeak mind you. On top of that, the brake dust accumulates far less and also comes off much easier. Long story short, switch to ceramic and you will be quiet and still stop on a dime =)

My X has 5000 miles on it and has been squeaking. It does suck. But like everyone said earlier just washing out the calipers make a huge difference. Weather also is a huge factor. From Dec to March it's terrible otherwise I usually never hear a thing.
Kendogg, I got the ceramic Hawk pads from KNSBrakes.com. You'll love them, less dust, no squeal and great bite
