Just had the valve cover off. Here is my timing chain

No stretch as the timing marks were lined up and the elongation indicator down in the chain case was to the left indicating no stretch.

Now, are these stock cams? I need an ID based in the markings

Thanks a ton. So they're obviously stock cams. I've replaced all parts that could be faulty. The timing chain is in spec, oil passages are clear, there are no obvious performance issues. Is there anything I'm missing? Can I still get tuned?

I wonder if a wire somewhere is broke.

So should I check the voltages on both connectors? The one going to the exhaust oil control valve and the one for the exhaust cam sensor?

My next step would be taking it to a reputable tuner and getting their opinion.

Logged a 3rd gear pull in Evoscan and the cams are way off. It's like Mivec is completely inactive. Decided to check my ecu. Looks like there's corrosion or scorching on pins 7 (exhaust camshaft position sensor) and 23 (exhaust cam position sensor ground). FML. Check out the pic

Maybe a short in the wiring caused it ?

Wow, great detective work!! Quite possible a short would cause that. If I were you, I'd go back to that tech and kindly ask him if he could help you diagnose THAT. The Mitsubishi Evolution Tech Manual is quite good at tracking down electrical shorts.

Thanks. I've only been working on cars since I got the Evo back in January. The input about the Tech Manual is much appreciated. I'll be putting in a call to the tech at the dealership tomorrow to see where he says I should go with it.

Haven't been able to take it to the dealer or even get a hold of the tech by phone. Do you think I'd be better off taking it to the dealer or an auto electrician. Anyone?

I'd personally take it to a dealer, that's a huge clue imo.

That's what I was thinking. It really narrows it down to the wiring from the ecu to the exhaust cam sensor, which is quite a short distance. I'm wondering if the exhaust and intake cam VVT is a dependent circuit, meaning the error on the exhaust side is throwing the whole MIVEC system off

UPDATE: took my evo to the dealership. The tech traced the wiring in my harness and tested all connections. Still threw the code

The service manager tells me the bad news, I need a new ECU. I then explain that I'll have to buy and have them marry a used ECU to my VIN after I bench it. He says, "Why would I do that if I'm going to cover it under warranty?" To which I reply, "F@%# YEAH!!!"

Such a shock to me because on my first visit to the dealership, the same guy said that any mod period would void my warranty. So, the new ECU is going in tomorrow. Hopefully this will be the fix I'm looking for.

In the meantime, I'm stuck driving my dad's car:
