P0014: need some advice
P0014: need some advice
I've been getting P0014 CEL for exhaust cam timing over advance for a month now on my 08 GSR. I've replaced the cam sensor, oil control feeder valve, oil passages are clear, mivec sprocket mechanism is operational. Don't know what else to do. Anyone have any ideas?
When I had the valve cover off I noticed I have the updated chain design. I lined up the timing marks and there was zero stretch indicated based on the reference in the service manual.
My car has 35k miles on the odo. Knew I forgot some details.

There is a TSB for your issue. Apparently, there is an issue where the ECU throws codes relating to chain stretch in error. You need to take the car to the dealership and have them use their MUT III tool to have the ECU relearn the chain learned values. After that, they will reflash the ECU with an update. I had this done several months ago, and the CEL has not come back since.

I don't see how the oil control feeder valve replacement would have any impact on the learned value. When the cam position sensor was replaced, did you replace the right one (exhaust cam and not intake)?
Don't know the oil pressure, should probably invest in a gauge. I disconnected the battery overnight and now I've got a P0011CEL and no P0014. Pulled the intake cam sensor and there was sludge on it. It's been 1100 miles since I changed my oil so I'm going to change it again in the am. Cam gears aeee sound. I've had the car since January. When I pulled the valve cover the only obvious mods were an AMS cam cap and ARP headstuds (I also have the updated timing chain with absolutely no stretch).
Since I found some sludge collection on the cam sensor (due to it being magnetic) I'm going to pull the valve cover and check the passages again in addition to changing the oil.
On another note, I just did a trans fluid change and switched to the redline cocktail, holy cheeseballs!!! It feels like someone draped my shifter in velvet. I had already installed a Torque Solution short throw shifter and TWM shifter base, underhood, and transission arm bushing, as well as a Blox 490 heavy shift knob. By far, the redline cocktail has made the best improvement. I can't wait till I hit 500 miles with it.

At this point I'm at a loss. I'm tired of babying my Evo (the ECU was locked when I got so I had to bench it to the stock 52680020 ROM). I desperately need a tune I feel like I need to get this code resolved before I can get an e-tune.
Yeah, pretty much said he didn't know what else to do. So now I'm at a loss as to where to go from here. Guess I'll see if a tuner will compare target vs. actual exhaust cam advance to see if it's phantom or not.
As I mentioned earlier, I disconnected the battery and had a P0011 CEL afterwards. That's gone and the P0014 is back. NEED A SOLUTION
