What size Intercooler?

I was thinking of buying the AMS IC that is 3.5". I noticed the ETS sold one that is 3". I have a TBE, intake, and UICP. I am planning on keeping the stock turbo. So with this setup what size should I go with?

I have a newer style ams fmic and it would be fine. Only thing I would really consider is with the thickness of the 3.5" over the 3" the stock turbo may have a little lag to it being its more air to push through the intercooler itself. But it isn't nothing to worry about. Its a good intercooler along with the ETS one.

Maybe I should just call up ETS and go with whatever they say.

3.5 inch should be perfect. Diminishing returns beyond that.. 4.5" would just be deadweight

I'm just wondering if the 3.5" is the best for the stock turbo then why do they sell a 3"?

I'm thinking the 3.5" might be best becuase I have no plans to upgrade the turbo.

Why the AMS fmic is good to 800 whp according to them if you call.

ETS makes a 3 and its a great core. AMS builds usually have huge turbos and aren't for just mild upgrades. I have this core on my car and its pretty awesome. ETS 3" is an awesome core too. If that's what you wanna go with, go with it.

We have installed many of our FMIC kits on stock turbo cars with great success without any issues at all. Our upgraded core has 80% more internal flow area than the stock core. We still offer this core in our stage 2 upgrade for the Evo 8/9.

Please feel free to shoot me a PM if you are interested and I can get you a price shipped.

Thanks

I didn't realize op was open to other brands. I thought he had decided on an ets intercooler. If he is planning to stay stock turbo then 3in maybe would be the best route to go but if one day he plans on switching y not spend a little extra now if u have the available funds for a bigger one instead of paying more later. Ets has shown morw gains to b had on their specific 3.5in and 4in models over their 3in. Again I was looking more into what the op may want to do in the future

Oh I am not trying to argue your logic at all I was just saying. I mean I know ETS has certain things they do for 3" and 3.5" and 4" and there all rated for different hp. I was just making the point that I was told that the ams core was able to make 800 whp on there core that's all.
