Not sure which dealer you go to in South Florida, but the one I go to uses synthetic and I have a 2012 GSR. One of the ladies even tried arguing with me that I should wait till 7000 miles before I get my first oil change because it's synthetic.

No way I would go that far on an oil change, especially your first one. you should change you oil the first time at about 1000 miles so that you can get all the metal shavings and everything else out that pops up during break in.

first oil change on all brand new bimmers are 15000 miles with castrol full synth... next one at 30000... so 7000miles oil change on a evo should be okay on full syth unless ur hitting the tracks alot

So I checked my owners manual this morning and sure enough it says "to better protect your engine and turbocharger, use fully synthetic engine oil." What the hell is going on with Mitsubishi that so many could be misinformed? These idiots at Mitsubishi need to get their **** together if they're putting in oil that could possibly damage my car.. So the real question here is what damage could have been done to my car over the past 3100 miles?

I would say none. Conventional oil is fine so long as it is changed more frequently than synthetic.

That post is inaccurate. The manufacturer state that it's "safe" to run regular oil as long as its SN rated. That said, in talking with my service manager he said, "The manufacturer doesn't always do what's best for the car. Rather what's most efficient for them."

The dealer put conventional oil on my first two oil changes as well. I assumed that they would only use fully synthetic especially since it was an Evo (they did on my 9). They stated that the new ones do not require synthetic anymore. The reason they gave me was because the conventional oil they use is rated higher than normal conventional oils.

I found that hard to believe so I looked at the manual and it does states that synthetic is recommended. I now bring Mobil 1 synthetic oil for my oil changes only because I have the car care package.

Use fully synthetic oil.

For those of you in Canada, Canadian Tire is having a sale on Rotella T6. 20% off.

AMSOil or Motul

In reality, Mobile 1 is probably just fine. Personally, I don't see an issue with spending $20 extra every 3 months to get higher quality oil.. $6 extra per month. $0.20 extra per day

Hate to break the news I own a 2012 GSR and work at Mitsubishi dealership. As far as the first oil change goes they have gone to conventional. With that said I put in synthetic and because why the hell not. Your first oil change is free and they will just put in conventional unless YOU ask for Synthetic. If you want to use synthetic oil then the dealership you go too should deduct the price of the conventional and only charge you a tad bit more for the synthetic. Just a tad bit of info on my end.

I haven't really looked into it yet but do the evo x runs well with the rotella t6? I know they're a great oil for the stis. Just wondering if the same holds true with the evos?

Of course, why not? It meets all required specifications.
