Exclamation Randomly shuts off while riding in neutral

I have read forum after forum on this and I decided to just make a thread about it anyways (to show my exact issue). My car randomly shuts off while slowing down and riding neutral for a long time. I wanted to make sure and I tested this over and over, and yes it only shuts off when riding neutral and coming to a stop. Many threads say so many different things, like checking for leaks, change your bov, re-flash your ecu. I took my evo to the dealership and did an inspection and found no leaks but I know when i bought this evo it came with an aftermarket exhaust and cold air intake. Could this mean that it may be tuned incorrectly? Im still a freakin newbie to this and read forum after forum (or thread) and still am confused. Did anyone have this same type of issue and get it fixed? Has nothing to do w/ the battery cables or tranny issues, everything runs fine, doesnt chug or have issues starting up...

Thanks for the help,

Blake

I get this too. I just installed a uicp and exhaust and hadn't had this happen before. I think I have a boost leak, but can't seem to pin point it. I get a tune in a week so I'm hoping to resolve it then.

Just a tip, you should never run and open element intake on a stock tune. Yes, you may be able to get away with it, maybe even for thousands of miles. But in the long run, it will bite you in the ****. Same goes for running a TBE.

I would either get a stock intake box with filter and have the car flashed back to stock by a Mitsu dealer. Or, go get tuned, those are your only safe options.

Mine doesnt cut off but sometimes the rpm's drop very low and it almost cuts off. Also sometimes when I start it, it starts kind of rough and in very low rpm's and I have to give it a little gas.

Mine is completely stock and has 8k miles. I would take it to the dealer but I'm sure they wont be able to replicate the problem and I will just be wasting my time.

Yeah, I am going to look into making sure it was tuned correctly before anything.

remove engine cover and check vacuum hose on intake . its small one on top that tends to come off . mine did and would shut off or idle extremely low.

^--- This. It's on the throttle body in the front of the engine towards the passenger side. Zip tie or wire tie it if it hasn't been already.

Aso well, what kind of intake do you have? When the fan kicks on, if there isn't a shield it can force air in that the MAF isn't expecting and hurt the idle of the car.

Hmmm...I don't have a heat shield on my intake. I wonder if this is what causes my stalls.

What intake do you have? Does the car only shut off with the AC on?

Never turned on the ac since I had it. It's a short ram open cone intake. Not sure the brand since it came with the car. Only while cursing up to a stop light in neutral does it shut off. Quite alarming since I've had that light turn green and I'm sitting in the middle of the road with no power steering and braking.

It is because of the open element or cone filter. I just insatalled a true cai and it doesn't happen anymore

I actually ended up taking it in, and found that it was a relay issue. I have done some reading and found that SOME OF THE OLDER EVO X's have the old MFI/FUEL pump relays which hinder running condition and acceleration. It ended up not happening to do w/ a leaky BOV or the other suggestions oddly enough. They ended up swapping my fog light relay and it is just a temporary fix until I get the new relays which I found at lancershop: http://www.lancershop.com/customer/p...7&cat=0&page=1. Thats just the link the the FPR but they have both relays. The car definitely accelerates better and runs smoother. Here is also the link I found that gave me some incite: http://www.evoxforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17957 , which im sure there is also a link to this somewhere on EVOM but that just happened to pop up first.
