Heads Up: Fuel return pipe recall

So, as many of you should know, there is a factory recall on the fuel return pipe (NHTSA#: 09V349000). This is not the news, I just wanted to share that my local dealer (Which has since closed ) screwed up the installation. The issue is that the pipe can crack under stress and leak fuel. There is a recall kit (part: MW400021) that your local dealer should do if you car is a 08~09 model.

I took my car to my local dealer and they did the recall, but the dealer only replaced the pipe and did not install the two new, additional brackets that are required and part of the recall. I should have checked what was all involved in the recall and verified their work, so learn from my mistake and double-check your shop's work. I had the "new" pipe crack and spray fuel like a ruptured aorta. This is dangerous stuff so stay safe. Double check that your have the two new brackets installed. There should be 5 screws/bolts holding the pipe in place. If you only have 3, you are missing the new brackets, go get it fixed ASAP.

I hope I help someone out there. I can post pictures if need be. I will call corporate to see if there is any compensation that I can get because I had to re-do this repair out of pocket. I'll see how that goes.

Allegedly, those affected received a letter. However, I was affected, and I did not. I received only the letter about the hood cable recall which was one of the first. You can call your dealership and give them your VIN and they can see if your car needs it. I think that I read that all 08-09 Evos and Ralliarts are affected, but I cannot remember where.

Yea as far as I know, all 2008s and 2009s were affected.

If you haven't got it done, you need to. It doesn't take too long..

Everyone who hasn't already should check this: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...formation.html

Pics of the brackets would be useful here.

So I finally got some.

This is the fuel pipe that cracked. Eventually from all the moving it around it broke in two. Note that it has the mounting points for the new brackets, but the brackets were NOT installed at the dealer during the recall:

This is the fuel pipe installed with the relevant information highlighted. I did not want to remove the UIC hose so sorry about the bad angles. I had to take two pics and could not get the 3rd original bolt in the shot. Also you can see the stain from the fuel spill which I got to figure out how to remove.

I've got a UICP shipping to me soon, I'll snap a full pic of the whole thing installed once I take the hose off.
