Any updates on what it was. I will pull my bumper off in the next week or so, and triple check everything.

... I was gonna say - sounds like the noise is a radio! But then I heard what he was asking about half way through.

In all seriousness though; to my knowledge it does sound like the turbo. I get that sound from my turbo also.

No i didn't find what makes the noise. All my clamps are good in all the piping and intake and I doubt that it would be an exhaust leak. I just learned how to live with it haha

Some local people are telling it's the 'turbo death whine'. I will pull the bumper off and report back on my findings (if any).

Do you usually only hear it when the car has been cold and then driven?

I've noticed, I only hear it when driving prior to warming up to normal operating temp.

I can hear it all the time. Whether it's warm or cold.

Do you notice smoke out of the exhaust after you do a pull? Mine had this noise, it was smoking after a pull and you could smell oil. Assuming a seal went bad. I replaced the turbo and everything is back to normal. No more whistle/whine.

No smoke and no oil smell. That was the first thing that I was looking for when I started troubleshooting.

I'm gonna do a boost leak test and see if I have any leaks that would cause it to make the whistle noise.

So, I did a boost leak test and found two small leaks. One was in my upper intercooler piping coupler and the second one was in a plastic T-fitting. They are both fixed and I'm still getting the whine.

Any other suggestions?

If its the stock turbo the noise is normal. I'm guessing its a random noise usually when cold or when coming to a stop and the idle is dropping. I've worked on a few X's at my shop and they all make that noise including mine. Nothing to worry about.

My buddy has 50,000+ miles on his X and it doesn't make the same noise that mine does. I only have about 8,400 miles.
