Looking to Purchase a Evo

Hey guys I currently own a 2006 roush stage 3 mustang. Probably pushing somewhere around 455rwhp. This mustang was my first car an now its time for me to part with it to get a daily driver. Im looking at the evo x gsr. I see that there are lots of mods for these cars. When I purchase the evo it is going to take me back and forth to college but I still want it to be my race car on the side as well. What mods would be a good without ruining everyday driveability. I really want to still have that fast street car but be able to drive it whenever. Also I couldnt find to much about how much hp the stock bottom ends can hold as well. Any advice would be great. I dont know to much about the evos or turbos and these little 4cyl motors LOL.

Just get a tune and enjoy. Stock bottom end can take 400lbs max, that is the real limit, so you are on the safe side with 350whp and same for torque.

Intake, Upper Intercooler Pipe, Catback, testpipe/HFC, 3 port and a GOOD tune will get you around 350whp dynojet numbers. Can make a bit more if you do FMIC and downpipe.

But if you have E85 available in your area, get some ID1000 injectors and an upgraded fuel pump E85 is practically made for the Evo

Contrary to a lot of peoples beliefs, saying that the engine is rated for 400hp max is sort of inaccurate. There are many people with stock blocks running well over 400. A lot of that depends on how the tuning is on the motor. A crappy tune will obviously hurt longevity of the engine.

Now with that being said 400hp is a safe range for the engine on stock internals, but once again depends on the tune.

The engine is a reliable motor, maintain it and it will drive just fine for years to come, many people on the forums drive theirs daily.

Engine is "rated" to 400wtq, not WHP. You could run a GTX35 turbo which will give you no low end torque until it spools and then hit 500whp at 7500RPM.

Torque is what bends rods.

Whatever you decide, make the switch to E-85.

Thanks guys for the advice. Ive seen a lot of things on boost controllers. There are electric, manual and the 3 port? What do these things actually do? Is it a simple bolt on? I also see alot of you guys go and get dyno tunes. Are any of these good evo tuning companys send out email tunes? Also you guys out their with full bolt ons what kind of gas mileage do you get and just curious has anyone ever raced a newer mustang???

The 3port controller is what most people use. It's basically a simple black box that replaces your stock boost controller, it can hold and manage boost a lot quicker than the stock controller and still be controlled by the ECU (tune)

The most important thing with these cars is the tune... you can add all of your bolt-ons on the stock tune and it wont kill the engine, but may run a little lean which isn't recommended. However with a proper tune it will turn the Evo into a whole different beast.

Word of advice, DONT drive the car once bolting on the 3port until you get it tuned... you'll easily blow a window in your block.

Ok so are their any upgrades you can do a evo without having to get a tune? Also yesterday I took a Evo GSR for a ride and was a little disapointed by the leg room. I wasnt trying to put the seat back more but it wouldnt go. Im 6ft 1 so I would assume for it to be a little tight but not as bad as my knee practically hitting the wheel.

Honestly, you should get a tune for every power mod you do. You could probably get away with doing a catback without too much problem.

There are plenty of good e-tuners on here if you can't get to a dyno tuner. I'd suggest hitting up Speedcircuit if you're in NJ. Do all your mods except the 3 port, and drive with little or no boost all the way to the tuner. Slap on the 3 port once you get there and get it tuned

AMS Performance makes a pretty good performance kit for the Evo X. Its most of their bolt-ons with a Cobb Accessport that comes with a tune already on it. It's a good starting point for the Evo X.

Ok good to know. I was also hearing about ivey tune as well. The evo will def needs some mods for my taste of driving. Yesterday when I drove it an went WOT it had a slight hestitation then slowly spolled up then we took off lol. Not even comparable to my mustang but hopefully I can get it close to that feeling!

I would recommend SpeedCircuit if you're in the Jersey area.

that's a loaded question cause there are so many different opinions and combinations, so I'll just limit it to three. In my opinion the best bang for buck mods should be:

1.) Intake
2.) Turbo back exhaust
3.) Grimmspeed 3 port bost controller w/ tune
