Questions on EVO DD
Hello everybody,
I've been lurking on these forums for quite a while, trying to learn as much as I can before I buy my Evo X. I'm going to get the MR as my wife can't drive a manual and we need to swap cars every now and again. Here's what I'm looking at for early mods:
http://www.amsperformance.com/cart/A...0-Package.html
AMS 400 HP Package
Grimmspeed MBC 3 port
Tune
Questions:
1.Now the AMS package comes with the Cobb AP so etunes should be a good option right?
2.With this kind of HP gains, could this car still be a long lasting Daily Driver?
3.I have a basic knowledge of vehicles. I've taken some classes, read some books, and gotten about 3 mo. of hands on training. Should I be able to install all these myself?
-I have jack stands and a hydraulic jack. This should be able to get the car high enough to do the turbo-back exhaust yea?
4. Lastly, any welding necessary for this exhaust?
Thanks everyone. Looking forward to getting some replies.

1. It depends on tuner
2. You will be around 340ish hp/tq with your mods so you should be alright
3. Yes you can. The downpipe is a pita but besides that everything else is easy.
4. I had this full exhaust on my first X and fit and sounded perfect. No welding at all.
Also idk if you are thinking about adding the LICP into the price but it is not worth it. The stock LICP is a good piece.

The AMS kit, usually already comes with a preflashed map for all the parts that you can flash your car with. However to get the most out of the parts a custom tune will be the best idea. If you are going to etune, I would get a wideband o2 sensor.
There are a ton of different widebands out there. A lot of people like the aem widebands, however you will have to figure out a way to log air fuel for the tuner as well. The cobb ap is pretty limiting in that fact. I know that a lot of people run the tactrix stuff. You will still need to wire the wideband to allow the software to log a/f. http://www.tactrix.com/
There are a couple different ways to log a/f.

Or you can get a usb to serial adapter to log that way as well.

If you really want to get the AMS kit, then just contact them. The kit, as you know will come eith a tune so the car will run safely. It will not be 100% maxed out for performance just to make sure it's safe.
That kit would come with everything you need.
There shouldn't be/won't be any reliability concerns. And as already said, the Catback a d testpipe is a piece of cake. The downpipe SUCKS. You might need to plan a whole day just for that.
but it's because it replaces the DP and o2 housing.

I just did turbo back exhaust in my garage with a jack and stands. Wasnt to bad except for getting the dp out which has been mentioned above.
Is it me or does the price on that AMS package seem high for what you get? Personally, I would look around here and talk to some venders about pricing of the parts you want. They are usually pretty easy to work with and will give you package deals. Just my thought. Good luck none the less!
