Upgrade concerns

I have an 08 Evo X GSR and I'm putting together a parts list. I am concerned with setting it up if I go with a bigger turbo. Right now its just a stage 2 clutch and an Injen intake with my AP tune. My question is if I buy an intercooler that's a direct bolt on will I have to change it later if I do a bigger turbo? Also with the intake uicp I have will that now need to be changed? I'm really trying to avoid upgrading an upgrade. I would like to do all that I can so if I do a bigger turbo I will get the most gains out of it. Also alil off this topic when I do a cam setup is it worth it to do upgraded pistons at this point with the motor opened up?

Get a quality intercooler and you'll be fine when/if you upgrade turbos; basically anything 3.5" or thicker would be ideal. My personal favorite is AGP since it has a large core with cast end-tanks. It's similar to the AMS, but larger and cheaper. ETS is also very popular but I am not personally a fan of welded sheet metal end-tanks.

As long as you stick with a stockframe turbocharger your intake and UICP will fit.

Removing the valve cover to swap cams is no where near opening up the engine to the point of being able to replace your pistons. Get a reasonably sized stockframe turbo and your stock bottom-end will be just fine. I've had both the MAP EF2 & EF2.5 and my bottom-end is holding up just fine with over 58k miles on it already, modified it's entire life and well over half those miles with an upgraded turbo.

Our 3.5" is a direct bolt on for the X w/o and cutting or bending and it will support the stock frame turbocharger as well as most larger turbochargers up to a 35R. Once you start to go over this size turbocharger the 4.0" intercooler will shine for flow reasons. The 4.0" is also a direct bolt on minus the bracket on the back of the bumper beam. Once this is removed (2 rivets) or by pressing it forward to clear the intercooler. Both intercoolers work with the stock turbocharger and you won't notice any difference in spool (lag).

Thanks!

Michael
