Id say go with MAP. You send in your stocker and pretty much just get a slightly modified stocker. And they are very good on price

The thread-starter keeps saying "stock appearing" instead of "stock frame," making me think that he or she wants a super-stealthy change. That also argues for dealing with the down-time and sending the OE turbo to MAP, as long as you can beg them not to put a MAP label on the turbo after they finish turning it into an EF2, EF2.5, or EF3. The thread-starter would also have to keep running the OE waste-gate actuator, which might be highly suboptimal, but this would be part of the ultra-stealthy upgrade.

ps. if the thread-starter is going super stealthy to either cheat in racing or perpetrate a fraud on the warrantor of the car, then I hope it explodes in his or her driveway

pps. I was running a 2G DSM in SCCA autocrossing when a bunch of other 2G drivers were cheating WRT boost and made all DSM drivers look bad; that's where the first ps is coming from

Iowa to me stock frame and stock appearing are pretty much the same.I'm not wanting to do this to cheat on any racing events our anything of that nature at all. This car is my daily and I personally think it would be fun to make it a sleeper. Its more a less to make it fun.If needed I could do cams and the turbo but I don't want a bunch of bolt ons and it doesn't matter if the turbo has maps label and actuator.Doesn't anyone see the fun in my idea?I have an evo 8 that has full bolt ons ets turbo kit only runs on e85.I want a pump gas only sleeper. Can the evo x,s be reliable with 425 whp?

Cool. And, yes, I can see the fun of a sleeper. I've done that before, myself. It was just how you kept saying "stock appearing" (for something that very few people will actually see) that had me worried. Good luck.

Hey iowa you didn't answer the one question about 425 I'm new to the evo x,s and nor sure how they would take that kind of whp can they be reliable at that level?.

I know people know that evos are modestly quick stock but 250whp and 400 to 450 is a big difference.450 is going to catch people by surprise
Especially if you are still running the stock exhaust.I just like to silence the evo haters. There are quite a few around here where I live.lol

I know this isn't typical of the internet, but I don't answer questions to which I don't know the answer.

Kracka is, IMO, the expert on reliable power. And I think he already answered, too.

ps. some of your comments are dancing on the edge of street racing; please dial that aspect of the thread back a notch

That's why I want it to look stock cause people will see the good open and not realize what my car really has.

425whp can be reliable on stock block if you have a good tune to keep your torque under 370 and you have reliable fueling, oiling, and spark. All depends on how you drive it as well.

I have been running my evo 8 with over 500 + whp and wtq for years with good reliability. There is no doubt my tuner can do his end.Ways the most guys are pushing on stock 4b11 bottom ends. Not that I plan to just curious.

Torque loads over 400 usually ventilate the block. Under 370 is considered "safe"
