Just got a TBE, tune question

Hello. I just bought a Greddy Tic TBE. It's my first power mod. Couldn't resist the price. Car sounds great. But at low rpm, i have these jerks.. not sure if it's the spark plugs, but I got some new ones anyways. It's been 5 years.

Anyways, I want to tune the car. However, if I were to tune it, and switch back to stock exhaust occasionally, how should I go about the tune? Should i get a Cobb AP? or would it be ok to tune the car toward the TBE and just run stock at times.

thanks for input. noob question

edit. just realized this might be under the tune section. sorry if it's wrong section

"Jerks" are a little hard to diagnose with out more information. You say low RPMs, it's it below a certain point? It is light load only? Is there a noise that accompanies it? It is in all gears? Accel? Decel?

get a tune. im assuming the switch back to stock it for smog purposes? you will be fine bolting the stocker on for smog.

sorry for sounding noob, this is my first time tuning and first time turbo car.

I understand it's hard to diagnose the "jerking". I have a lot of friends say a tune will take care of it. Not too worried. It's that feeling when I'm trying to WOT, and my car just won't go. It literally shakes the car and I'm jerking back and forth at ~2-4000 rpm range for a good 2-3 seconds. feels like having no gas but a lot more violent. Once turbo is fully kicked in, my car takes off.

My concern is the switching back to stock. I want to keep this TBE on, but I'm really not sure how long I can keep it without cops harassing me. This car is kind of an eye sore to cops around my area. I get window tint and no front plates ticket all the time. So I figure it's a matter of time before they pull me and I need stock back on. I also have to do smog this year.

So after a shop's pro tune, can I run stock exhaust and run smooth as butter? or would I be lacking some power since the car is adjusted to the TBE? This is for running the stock exhaust for a longer period of time, not a day or two.

If i were to buy another dual exhaust like Perrin for daily, would the tune still be effective? or do i need to get a re-tune for a different exhaust?

That's a lot more helpful.

It sound like what you're talking about is the difference in back pressure from your new exhaust! If that is the case, yes a tune will fix it.

I had that same exhaust (some are fake, btw), and they run a 80mm pipe from the turbo back, so it's over 3". You have very little back pressure and your stock setup is not compensating well.

Grab a Cobb AP, a 3 port boost controller and run Stage 2 and your car will feel like a rocket ship. Cobb even makes a great OTS map for that setup. And when you want to go back to stock for some reason, you can flash to Stage 1 and still have some okay power.

On your Greddy exhaust, you can get a specific silencer insert for the tailpipe and it will make it so quiet, like more quiet than stock. You could probably ask Dallyn@Rallysport if they can get one for you.

how much are these exhaust going for now? I had one on my turbo s2000 and loved it. I wonder if it sounds similar.

thanks for the inputs!

Mine is a straight pipe running from my turbo back. Are those ok with silencers? I thought that sudden jam of air flow would not be good

another question. Should I be looking to get a tune right away for TBE?

it will have a minor restriction, yes. Take it off for the racetrack. You should get tune asap

A tune will resolve the issue. Aslo you can put a more aggressive tune on your car with your TBE on and everything but if you ever need to switch back to the stock exhaust because of the cops or anything, you can get the shop that tunes your car to put a second tune on your car. The switch on your steering wheel that switches it from tarmac to gravel to snow has a setting where when you hold it down, you can switch between tunes. You wouldn't have to buy a Cobb AP if you did that. All up to you..

I haven't seen anyone use the S-AWC mode switch. Instead, all the cars I've seen are using the cruise-control switch.

Or are you trying to say that a stock car has multiple maps, switchable by the S-AWC mode switch? That would be, well, news.
