Running an evo after long storage?
Running an evo after long storage?
Hey all,
I stowed away my 08 MR EvoX for 6 months and now I am going to fire it up for the first time. What type of maintenance thing should I do before I crank it over?
So far on my list I am going to flush the fuel line and replace the fuel filter, get a new battery, but what else? I am looking for ideas before AND after startup.

I'd think about some fuel stablizer. and or take it easy on that tank of gas then fill up with some new fresh stuff. oilchange might be alright to do as well. otherwise check all the fluids.. make sure its good and warmed up before you beat on it.
For only six months - the oil change is up to you. If it was 'close to being due' - i would do it now. If it was done prior to storage... probaly okay, i would just give it a good highway run the first drive to get it up to high speed for some time and burn off the condensation.
Fuel stabilizer now is too late. Do not do it. Do add some fuel dryer to help burn off the condensation. Hopefully the tank was full while stored...
Don't replace the battery unless it warrants it. It may just need a trickle charge (don't jump it). Check the voltage before trying to start it. Less than 10 VDC? - i would trickle charge.
Me? I might spray a wee bit of lubricating oil (even WD40) into the cylinders through the spark plug holes first before firing 'er up. After six months the walls are quite dry. You will reduce much wear for that first start up.
The fuel filter should be good. The little bit of water accumulated in the fuel does not affect it and there should be no serious rust/crud from only six months sitting...
If you can (and sometimes Life Happens and you don't get that lead time)... - research 'how to store/prep my car' for next time -it can alleviate some of this...
I hope this helps.
