hesitation around 6500 rpm?

So I just got my 2014 GSR a few weeks ago. Break in period is recommended to be at 600 miles. Done that! So I wanted to see how this car really runs. And since I traded in my 2011 WRX for this car, I expect great things out of it.

So yesterday, I was going home from work using the turnpike, I decided to push the revs close to the red line for the 1st time. 1st and 2nd gear seemed fine but when I got to the 3rd the car kinda hesitated and the rev needle started to fluctuate around 6000 rpm and it had a hard time going passed it.

I haven't tried it since then. Is this common? Is this because it is brand new? I waited to try this after break in period and it's semi dissappointing and somewhat concerning. My WRX never had this problem.

Any thoughts?

I'm not really sure if mine hesitated at 6k rpm. I rarely took it to 6k rpm because the powerband just drops off after 5k rpms.

IMO the Evo in stock form really isn't to impressive. Pretty much the acceleration you feel up to 5k rpm is all the car really has until you mod and tune it.
