Looking to mod my evo
Can anyone else confirm if ets intake don't need a tune? Btw, I'm confused i been modding Hondas before we can slap on parts and all we do just reset ecu and let it learn itself and driving is fine until tune. For evo we can't do the same? Sorry if dumb question still learning this new turbo car. Thanks!
Here is what you do...
Keep stock airbox...get K&N drop-in air filter
Upper intercooler pipe
Catback...add HFC or test pipe if you aren't worried about emissions.
Tune
Done. Save the money you would spend on the intake and get a tune. You would get much more out of the car this way than an intake ever will.
Don't worry about brand. Go with a reputable one that you like, and you will be fine. Practically no difference whatsoever in power. There is no "best".
I'm just daily driving it but I want some more power as dd. I will get tune somehow i mean I just can't get it tune right away if I slap on the intake. That's why I was asking will it damage the car if I put on intake, bov, cat back without tune for awhile? There's just no good tuning shop in sd. So if I did those resetting the ecu won't relearn and adjust to the new a/f like Hondas?
I've just got into my first mods as well. I've got an AMS intake, Cobb AP, and a downpipe ready to install.
I've got nothing but good things to say for the AP. I'm still impressed with the improvement the V400 maps were over stock.
I like the ap for the ease of use, along with the base map support. I used their V400 map, put in the MAF scale from the AMS map, and went out for a few logs to dial the scale in... Didn't make many changes but I don't think the evo's ever been this smooth.
Turbo back exhaust would be an O2 housing, downpipe, test pipe or cat and then the catback. Some downpipes have built in O2 housings like the AMS or Tomei. Megan makes a stand alone one.
Good luck and happy modding!
Edit: I would definitely suggest the AP for you if you don't have a tuner in your area... Cobb has many off the shelf maps for different mods. But note that the best Etuners on here will work with you provided you have a wideband installed.

After that, I put on the cbe, intake, IC, UICP, and bov. I still kept it at stage 1. I then added the TP and the DP. After that I flashed to stage 2 on the cobb ap.
After that I set up my appointment with the tuners. The night before I changed my fuel pump. I then had the tuners install my injectors and 3port.
I think you can run with the mods you listed. I personal did not since I had the cobb ap. But for the most parts, our cars do not gain much gains with mods and no tune.
so Cobb AP have preloaded maps built in? I don't want to mess with the thing since I probably don't know what i'm doing. Can I just install it and choose a preloaded map and leave it as it is? Or still need tune? Cobb AP just temporary tune? Don't want to mess with stuff that I don't know how to configure lol.
Goal down the road won't be for a long while get around 400 whp. For now just want do light mods and dd it.

The AP maps don't need to be tweaked, I did it for a better understanding of the performance improvement of the AMS intake.
I think for your goals I'd go that route. The V2's are coming up frequently on here fairly cheap since the V3 was released.

I just got a coffin muffler. I got it from thecoffinmuffler.com and it sounds awesome. had my cousin make me a 3' catback and its deep and sounds great. all together it cost me $140 for parts (no labor because my cousin put it on at his shop)

correct me if I'm wrong from people who actually own one, but if you go to cobbtuning.com you simple pick your year and you pick the cobb ap. theres a section that says "maps" and thats where you download the map from your computer to your ap. then you plug it into your car and"download" it to your car. the last part might be better described by someone who has done it, but i hope this helps!!!

You're correct, hit the website and download maps by year, save the map to the AP via Accessport Manager, plug it in to the car and go!
Be sure to get Access Tuner Race as well to actually see the values in the tables. It's free, you fill out a request on their site and they send you the link.
Digging around on the forums there's been a lot of complaints of cobb's lack of support for our platform. I'd like to say in my experience, great product, good people!

My car has an AEM intake, GFB bov, and a catback. I'm gonna try to get the cobb ap for Christmas, but so far I have had no problems. (other than my stupid clutch master cylinder going out... lol)

but a cobb ap is going to be my next performance upgrade. i don't have any problems at all, however i don't drive it hard, and i don't track it. it's my daily driver as well so thats one of the main reasons i try not to beat it up too much lolalso, i bought it in november 2012 and mitsubishi had just put a brand new motor in it (and also kept the goodies; intake and bov) so almost a year without a tune

I chose to go with ETS because of the customer service, quality and is reasonable prices. The only things i have that arent ETS are my cbe and test pipe.
If you're on budget, my suggestions would be a drop in filter, uicp, catback, hfc, boost controller and a custom tune. You wont too much gains with a fmic, down pipe and drop in filter. But if you have the spare cash and wanna squeeze as much power out as you can, go for it.
I ran the ETS intake, ETS UICP and MXP cbe without a tune for 4 months without any problems. Then i decided to install the test pipe and get a Cobb AP. The AP is awesome if you dont have a reputable tuner near you and are kinda modding in stages. It worked out for me because i modded my car quite slowly. It took me just over a year to get full bolt-ons and a custom tune.
if i were to do it again, I would save up for everything and install it all at once and go for a tune

Thanks for all the help so far so it seems fine to install a few bolt on without tune for awhile then. Mlouis what bov did you go with your ets? How was fitment and boost? Thinking of going with ets intake and turbosmart dual port.
i kept the stock BOV, no need to change it unless you crushed it and it still cant hold the boost. I'd definitely recommend the ets intake, awesome fitment and sounds awesome! You will definitely hear it sucking in air and the BOV between shifts, its pretty loud.
